Very impressive gateway and some old parts that have not been restored. Very busy there today - so guess has an active membership (If that is what they call them) This was more obvious in their money collecting with forture telling for cash.

Kaiyuan Temple is the oldest temple of Fuzhou. It was initially constructed in the 3rd year of the Taiqing Period of Liang Dyansty and has a history of nearly 1,500 years. A temple clean-up movement was launched in the fifth year of the Huichang Period (845) and only one temple could be preserved in each state. As Kaiyuan Temple was the largest temple in Fuzhou then, it was preserved. The cultural relics that have been preserved until now include the millennial iron Buddha cast in the 4th year of the Zhenming Period of the Houliang Dynasty, the seven-storied stone pagoda in the Song Dynasty, the stone channel of the Song Dynasty, the attic of the Ming Dynasty and the hall of the Qing Dynasty.

Great place to visit to appreciate Chinese culture & the architecture of a temple. Lots of interesting areas to view & lovely plants and tree balance to blend nature & man-made structures. Recommend to visit.
