Well situated on a main axis of the city, the museum offers a great modern architecture and plenty of exhibition rooms that review the history of the region in great detail and with lots of valuable artifacts. One of the most stunning hall is that where prehistoric times are reviewed and dinosaurs are displayed. A lot of interest and fun... More

Large halls, modern and informative. The museum is a great place to get out of the sun or rain. They take you through the history of the province though is slightly biased towards the government's kind aid...

This is a good place to see dinosaur bones and fossils from the area. There are some good exhibits on the human history from the PRC perspective. Not everything has English captions but certainly enough to get a good sense of what you are seeing. Take your passport to get free entry. If you spend ant time in Hohhot you... More

Huge building but not much inside interesting for foreigners. It is not worth a visit. The outside of the building is interesting.

This museum has some exquisite artifacts, ranging from Neolithic stone paintings to Mongol weaponry. It is laid out in such a bad manner that you don't get a good sense of the history of the region. So much space is wasted on dioramas and so little on explanation. English translations are even worse, patchy and inconsistent. It has so much... More

We had heard that this was the best museum in Inner Mongolia, and had this at the top of our "things to do" list. It was not a disappointment, as we spent almost two hours viewing the exhibits. The only negative was that it was really crowded, and we did not get the chance to spend as much time as... More

We arrived early afternoon and walked a half hour to the museum. It is very well organized and traffic flows well. Very interesting displays and great to learn about Inner Mongolia before we began our two week adventure through the territory.

This visit to the Inner Mongolia Museum gives me a head start to enjoy the real 'Treasure of Mongolia'. Ancient ornaments and artifacts are beautifully handcrafted and preserved for the next generation to appreciate. So much to see and learn about Mongolia, worth going and is free.

The museum visit surprisingly turned out to be a discovery journey about Inner Mongolia. After the visit, I learned that they have found many dinosaurs fossils in IM and that they have an aerospace program and rocket launch pad in the desert there. It dismisses my preconception that IM is only all about grasslands, yurts and horses. As we didn't... More

Our flight was delayed so we had a few hours to kill and this gave us an opportunity to visit the museum. Lovely building and a great deal to see covering all aspects of Inner Mongolia. There are some very interesting displays and artifacts from their nomadic history.
