Nice place to wander

Best at night when you can see all the lights from different colors along the way, during the day it's less enchanting

Happened upon this place in the evening while strolling around the area around our hotel. The Grand Canal is lit with colors and bridges are outlined with lights. Magical.

A cruise on the Suzhou Grand Canal raises expectations of a Venetian excursion in China. The Grand Canal is similar in size to the smaller Venetian canals and really Grand Canal is a misnomer. However if you enjoy canal longboats or small boat (say up to 20 people) river cruising then this is worthwhile. The trip to Suzhou from Shanghai... More

This shows the cultural history of the early chinese and is worthwhile to wander around or better still take the tour on the Canal.

A boat trip down the Grand Canal is like stepping back in time into Old China. You pass people's houses, people sitting on the banks, people taking photographs. A relaxing way to take in the remnants of an old culture

The lights were on inside the boat for most of the tour, could not see anything outside. They were just trying to sell CDs and postcards. Not worth the trip, very disappointed in this tour.

The southern part of huge canal from Beijing to Hangzhou is not used for trade ships now, only for touristic purposes.

We took a tour boat on the Suzhou section of the Grand Canal and into the old town. Well worth it for just being on the Grand Canal but also really interesting to see the river side of the old town

Often called the "Venice of the Orient", this doesn't quit meet that lofty expectation. However, don't let that dissuade you from visiting, as it's still a great boat ride tour past various stone bridges, gardens, restaurants and buildings of various types and in various stages of decay. The people you'll pass are friendly and the boat ride is kinda like... More
