A local from Wuxi gave the tour, and was very proud of her city and the location. This was considered a small city, 3+ million people, but that is considered small by China city standards. There is a nice lake at the city park with nice walking paths.

Tai Lake is enormous. It has 90 islands and covers a huge territory. The longest tunnel in China goes under it. The lake is round and they say the shape was created by a meteor millions of years ago. White-washed houses line the shore, in places, and skyscrapers decorate the shore in other places, but a lot of the shoreline is open. Huge lotus plants beautify the lake in summer. There are no beaches and not many boats. There's lots of little lakes in the area, as well as rivers and canals, and the Grand Canal, but this lake is the largest in the region and one of the biggest in China.

Our Nexus tour took us to this farm to understand the process of fresh water pearls.
They showed us a "clam" which they opened in front of us and it was full of many small pearls. Once that was done we were lead into a showroom and encouraged to buy.
A couple of the people on our tour bought and as the tour progressed the pearls came off the setting. One lady lost a pearl from her earring and the other from her ring. They will get them reset once they get home. Not a good advertisement for their business. Thought the products were expensive and am not trusting that they are what they say they are.

This is a huge lake with plenty of park/ forest surrounding it. There are long walkways around the lake that are great for joggers and bikers or just for a nice stroll. There are plenty of canals connecting to it as well that remind me of Venice. You can also fish by the shore practically anywhere. There are only certain places where people have lakeside housing, so there are plenty of places to just enjoy wildlife. The downside is there are not many boats and there doesn't seem to be anywhere you can take a rented boat tour. Good luck finding a bathroom; you may have to utilize a bush.

China's next big challenge is the environment, and Tai Hu deserves a lot of attention. It would be amazing if it was clean, but sadly it stinks, as a result of rampant algae feeding on the water contaminants. come on China

We didn't do much on this lake, but we stopped by and took a looksee. We got there at sunset and caught a gorgeous blood-red sunset. A beautiful vista - definitely recommended

This would be like a nature area for the Wuxi city. I ate at a high end restaurant along the lakeshore. It was a very nice setting. There is a road that follows the lakes borders. What if found most interesting is that there are actually some birds in the area. China seems almost void of birds, though I did see magpie's which are beautiful.

Took a boat ride to the island. it was scenic and peaceful. Spend about 1.5 hours on the island and visited several places. Nice place to visit if you have half a day to kill time.

quiet, scenic place to visit with your family and friends! Very peaceful and romantic as well.
plenty of eateries inside the park, so you don't need to carry refreshment as they are easily available everywhere. Electric cars to ferry you around and a boat ride to visit the fairy island. A nice way to spend your sunday afternoon!
