Marshall Zhang (1901-2001) is a legendary historical figure in China. It was interesting to visit the large complex of Marshal Zhang's Mansion/ Museum and to be brought back to his era during the visit. Recommended for a visit whilst in Shenyang.

Zhang Xue Liang, he was the son of general Zhang ZuoLing. In 1920-1930, Zhang Xue Liang was a leader of his army, resist Japanese army invading. But in Xi an event, he was arrested and imprisoned by President Jiang. When I first been former Residence of Zhang, it was in winter, the cold snow still can't keep out of its glamour. The residence now like a museum completely preserve the daily life of Zhang, and his detail development history. Even, his concubines detail information.
What I like is its well preservations, its beautiful garden and north China culture. they are so attractive and beautiful even in so cold winter. What I dislike is the temperature, -20℃ was iced me in a great deal, I even can't stay in outside more than 10 minutes, the strong and cold wind beat my face.
If you wanna go there in winter, wear more! Gloves and thick caps are necessary.

Shenyang has a lot of history on offer that Westerners probably haven't studied before. This residence provides some insight into a local person of historical importance.

Don't be confused with the english translations, some are a bit bumpy. The best thing is to have a guid who can tell you everything in native english. But even if you don't have this option it is worth a visit.

We were in the House of Zhang. It is a large walled enclave with Manchu architecture and a splendor European mansion behind .An army barrack was built next to protect it .Warlord Zhang Zuolin, his 5 wives and mistresses stayed here .There are large halls , courtyards , a bank , military office ,and smaller mansions . A display of wealth and power of the residents inside .A bronze statue in military uniform stood outside. It reminds visitors his heroism .
Zhang Zuolin (1875-1928) was an illiterate bandit and mercenary before military decorated by the monarchists. Old Marshal Zhang fought and won many battles .He allied with the Dowager , the Nationalists and even militarist Japan. .They assassinated him before invading Dongbei . Historians call this 'The Mukden Incident ' .His death send shock waves to the rest of China.
Zhang Xueliang (1901-2001) joined his father's army at early age .Young Marshal Zhang was both an enigma and a maverick .He studied aviation in Japan and daydreamed on military aerial bombardment .The Wright brothers were still test flying Kitty Hawk in Ohio ,USA .He changed history by kidnapping Chiang Kaishek in 1936. Historians call this 'The Xian Incident' After the war, Zhang Xueliang was imprisoned for treachery in Taipei .He died a centenarian in Honolulu.
