Begun in 1038 AD, the whole site covers about 600,000 square feet, with many buildings within its walls. It is located along the western wall of the old city. The Daxiong Bao Dian, the upper temple's huge main hall, built in 1140 AD, is one...More

Great and quiet temple in central Datong. A bit reconstructed, but worth the visit as the temple is very large and has various big beautiful halls.

Great Buddhist temple in the heart of Datong. Located behind the old city walls, this temple complex has great pavilions, temples and Pagoda to overlook the historical part of the city.

This is the most beautiful temple in downtown Datong. While 80% of its building are reconstructed, but I still think it's worth visiting. The peaceful atmosphere made the visit very enjoyable. Better to go with a guide so you know what to look at.

We loved it. It comes out to $10us but worth every penny. We went with out a guide and it was still good. We went on a Saturday so outside of the temple there was some really good cheap shopping.
