You can certainly book food tours in many holiday destinations, but in Chengdu it is a special treat, as the Szechuan cuisine is particularly refined and varied. There is even a museum dedicated to it in the north of the city. Whilst we were familiar with dishes such as hotpot and dandan noodles, we discovered other delicacies on this tour as well - such as giant asparagus (the green in kungpao chicken), rabbit head (surprisingly delicious) and jelly-like noodles.

As tourism is only slowly picking up again in Chengdu, we were pleasantly surprised that my partner and I were alone with our tour guide Ree. She speaks perfect English and was able to tell us a lot about the history as well as private anecdotes about the food we ate and catered to our individual needs. The afternoon with Ree felt informal and relaxed. Apart from the fantastic food, it was also very nice to get to know a local and learn more about life in Chengdu.

We can highly recommend the tour - you will go places and eat things that you wouldn't discover on your own.

What a great fun and enjoyable tour. We ate some of the best meals in Chengdu. I would recommend this to all my friends. Xiao Shuang was an excellent guide. She gave us a fun tour of Chengdu and gave us an insight into the history of this beautiful city.

It was a great food tour. My guide, Lee, is very knowledgeable and was great in explaining the history of the food items we had. We went to a few restaurants and also tasted some of the street food available at the wet market. The best part was, of course, the hotpot :)

Lee also suggested a few more bars/restaurants that i visited on my own. Her recommendations were really good. Overall a great experience and i would definitely recommend to do this tour.

We had an excellent evening tour with Xiao. She tailored the experience to our preferences, was very friendly and informative and spoke fluent English. We learned a lot about Chengdu food culture, including markets and restaurants that we wouldn’t have found on our own. Highly recommended.

The Chengdu Food Tour was the highlight of our time in Chengdu, and frankly, the highlight of our month in China! We went to so many different eateries - from street food vendors to sit down restaurants, and sampled the best of the food that Chengdu has to offer (dan dan noodles, BBQ rabbit, mapo tofu, gong bao chicken, thousand year old eggs, and so much more). It was a multi-hour feast and also a fantastic learning experience. I went with my 11 year old son who enjoyed it just as much (he avoided the spicy food and still had plenty to eat). Our guide was so knowledgeable. There were two other families on our tour and it was a fantastic opportunity to also meet others traveling in China and dine together.

Great food, Brilliant knowledgeable guide, Overall an awesome experience.

We visited 6+ places, learned a lot about the food culture and the history of Chengdu.

These guys also have a online shop with some infused baijiu that is very tasty.

I've just uploaded a couple of photos as part of the experience is the discovery/surprise. Just know that there will be something for everyone.

Our experience with Chengdu Food Tours was great! My fiance, future father-in-law and I visited Chengdu in December 2019 and went on a private tour with Xiao. She was an excellent tour guide - extremely knowledgeable, friendly and warm. We had such a great time wandering from spot to spot, getting a real insiders glimpse into Sichuan cuisine. Xiao was more than happy to tailor the tour to our liking. I highly recommend the company and booking a tour when you are in Chengdu.

We were 2 families with 5 children, 12 and under. We all had a fantastic time and loved the food. We had Anita and Doreen as our guides. They were so lovely, friendly and so knowledgeable with food in Chengdu. They interacted with the kids all the time and included them which was special (my 10 year old boy chatted all the way with them both 🤣). You will not be disappointed with the tasty food either!!!

The food tour was absolutely wonderful. I'm not usually a fan of any kind of tour or guided activity, but damn, was I happy I went for this one.
The tour was well thought through, with so many different kinds of food to try, and at the fresh market we learned so much about typical ingredients (and baijiu).
Our guide Xiao Shuang was great, talking with so much passion about Chengdu and its food. Also the next day, when I was trying to find the BBQ rabbit spot back (it is good!) she helped me with directions on wechat.
