The 'red mountain' is part of a lovely hilltop park in central Urumqi. there are ponds with pedaloes, a funfair, a pagoda with 3D models of urumqi 'then and now', there are views out over the snow capped mountains and the red brick pagoda (which is missable but a useful landmark for getting your bearings.

If you go by bus then have to walk almost 20 minuts from nearest bus/brt stop. Enterance is free. One can either walk or sit in a mini cart after the bridge to the top. It cost only 10 Rmb i think. Once you are at the top there many things to do. In my opinion the city views are... More

The park is symbol of Urumqi however the place is very crowded and noisy full of local people who usually bring their kids to enjoy the amusement rides. The good thing about the park is that scenic views of the city opens up from the top of the 3 store tower.

Free entry and easy to find in the CBD On a Sunday afternoon the parklands were vibrating with all the different cultures of the Urumqi area. There are plenty of small street markets, picnic areas and carnivals for kids. We took the stairs up to the Symbol of Urumqi but there are also shuttles for easier access available. The view... So we skipped up this little hill on a really hot day to see the icon of Urumqi and were quite disappointed. It is just a little tower on a hill. You do get good views of modern Urumqi city but in my opinion it's not worth the effort.

this place is the amazing place to view the Urumqi view from the top where the pagoda is. you can view the high building around. advise to visit around 7.30 then wait for the sunrise. when the sun rise, the heat of sun will turn the snow to frog surrounding the building, the screen is so beautiful. except the view,... A welcome mini workout walking up the slope (there's also an electric tram for a fee). The view from the top, where the pagoda is, shows you how much of a city Urumqi has become - for better or for worse. Mostly tourists there, so you don't get a feel of what a local park is like, but you do... More
