The bazaar showcases Urumqi's unique culture and people. In the evenings, the public square will be filled with locals dancing and singing. The shops are nothing to shout about, as they mostly sell the same products. Dried fruit and nuts are popular though.
Came here because I thought no trip to Urumqi will be complete without visiting the Grand Bazaar.

Found it very pleasant walking around the bazzar the colours sounds and general atmosphere. Please remember your passport as it is required to be able to enter due to the terrorist problem. I felt very safe at all times.

We went there at around 630pm, there is no buzz or energy at all. Going into this market does not excite.
There are plenty of dry fruits and creams to buy. Jade shops also.

its the same market only different name. officially open from 9am to 6pm, however, there are shops that open past 6pm. do note that there are various entry points to the bazaar in accordance to the type of items. i went thru the door beneath a carrefour signage and that entry leads to the area where you can get souveniers... local items and stuff example jewellery... crafts..etc...
