I only came here as a meeting point for the start of a tour. Not much going on but it had a cool atmosphere with a few eateries. Sometimes there are artists so this is nice to see as well. I liked the sculpture in the form of trumpets that are dedicated to Varela and there is music! Worth a stop.

Nice comfortable plaza with a museum. Good meeting point.
Also great place to chill with an ice cream or one of the local fruits juices.
The Trumpet of Niche Monument is pretty interesting.
Worth visiting.

Not surprised the city authorities dedicated a whole square to Jaïro Varelo the big Salsa man from Cali who died in 2012 at the age of 62. The sculpture in the form of trumpets that write the word Niche (name of the Salsa band Varelo played with) is in the middle of the plazoleta. Quite a modernist environment without trees or green, a bit desolate when there are no events and very hot during the day and early evening.

This is located near one of the (probably few) areas in Cali that are good for a walk/stroll. There’s an interesting memorial to Jairo Varela, former leader of local salsa band Grupo Niche.

The city could have done something prettier if they hired an designer with urbanistic skills and mastery. They have little shows there once in a while but as with everything the city does lately it bares the grass and it turns out into a dusty lot - or muddy if it is raining- which is not pretty at all.

Every Friday around six there are free salsa lessons which is pretty awesome and there are also nice cafes, juice places and restaurants in the plaza so it’s a perfect place to chill, eat or have fun.

Grupo Niche and Cali Colombia are known for its Salsa and known world wide by Salsa Dancers. you might not dance salsa, but if you go here you can say you went to the one monument dedicated to the sounds of salsa, with each horn playing a hit from Grupo Niche! Inside, you want to move to the groove. The words are printed inside of the horn. Each horn is large with plenty room to dance! This is a must see in my book! If you dont dance just enjoy the music, or watching the dancers!
