Small but interesting

Small museum but lots of displays. Main interest here was air con, free and clean bathroom. Lots of thick walls ,etc. Must be real gold

Small musem

This museum is pretty small, and there isn't much to it, but hey, unlike its more famous cousin in Bogota, this one is free. We had a hard time even finding the place because the entrance is pretty nondescript. You can see everything in about 10 minutes.

Free museum that takes less than half hour. Interesting descriptions of gold history in Colombia and many beautiful pieces on display.

Not closed, just a different location
Dec. 2019
There are twelve regions of Columbia where gold is obtained and used for ornamental objects and jewelry. The museum visit is free and we sure enjoyed the day we went. It was fascinating to see the regions and what they produced. The finery of the golden objects proves Exquisite craftsmanship in detail and size. The collection is held in a vault of a bank and is well protected.

Worth it!!
Aug. 2019
If you love neat corners of history and culture, this won't disappoint! Cool displays about the various regions of Colombia and the types of gold mining etc. Lots of neat exhibits (gold frogs, birds, etc). As of Aug 2019 the main building on Bolivan Square is temporary closed for renovation BUT the exhibit (a portion, I assume) is relocated a block down the street - they have a sign on the permantent building- just go there and look at the map they posted. It's free. Note you do not need a guide!
One guy standing outside the original building with an official-looking lanyard around his neck told us it was closed/relocated, and offered to guide us for free and if we liked it our "family could pay 10,000 pesos at the end." We declined and walked down without him. Turns out the whole exhibit has excellent English signage!

Nice little museum
Aug. 2019
Had hoped to see the gold museum in Bogata but it was closed when I was there. This is a miniature version and it's very nicely done. Well worth the stop.

Temporarily relocated

This free museum does a wonderful job of condensing Colombia’s golden past into a geographic and chronological summary. For newbies to gold, there aren’t enough details to get you up to speed. But if you’re walking in with background knowledge, this is the perfect update fir Colombian gold.

Looking for a gift
Jul. 2019
I like copies of the Galaria Cano historical dig. I knew that’s what I would see there and I did. I was nice. I liked it but I didn’t buy anything. I think the original collection is more interesting than the updated copies.
