Simple museum, but worth small admission price

I would not put this on the list of fantastic art museums of the world, but considering the very modest admission price (~$3 USD), it's a worthwhile use of time while in Cartagena for a few days. The museum has two floors and about 6-7 galleries. It can easily be experienced in 30-45 minutes. It has some interesting works by... More

The times here on Trip Advisor are inaccurate. I tried to visit the museum at 11 on a Sunday morning and it was closed. The sign on the door said they opened at either 3 or 4 in the afternoon. I wish I had been able to visit!

If you're a fan of modern art, you'll want to make you time for this little gem in a beautiful plaza setting in the Old City. It's small, but nicely laid out and contains some compelling work IMBO (it's not SAN Francisco or New York or Paris, it's Cartagena). And the price of 8,000 pesos (less than $3) won't bust... More

Sorry but every now and then you instantly know you took the wrong decision AFTER you paid the entrance fee to a museum. Such place is the modern Art museum in Cartagena. Situated in a beautiful building in the heart of the old town it has a very meagre art collection, mainly consisting of second rate local artists, that hardly... More

The entrance fee is 8.000 cop per person which isn't that bad except for the fact that there isn't much art and some rooms were empty or under construction so closed. You can probably see everything in 10-15 minutes.

If you are into modern art and have enough time to spare, this is a good way of spending 45 minutes. The museum is not very large so one can take a leisurely stroll among the exhibits. Worth seeing.

Right off the square by St. Peter Claver church, this museum is multi leveled with local painting and sculpture. There were a number of good works. Only takes 15 minutes to wander the two floors.

This little gem of a museum holds a well curated selection of some of Colombia's and South America's best modern day artists. The collections are spread out in two adjoining building, on both floors and follow a bit of a thematic theme, with one entire section on the main floor dedicated to beloved native Cartagena son Enrique Grau's works of... I'm an art history nerd, so I love art museums. I agree with other reviewers - how in the world can they properly maintain art when it is kept in the sweltering heat and humidity?? You can see the deterioration in the works, which makes me very sad. Otherwise, we really enjoyed the works of Alejandro Obregón and Enrique Grau,... More

We only discovered this (somehow) on our 3rd visit to Cartagena. I wish we'd found it earlier. This is a small museum but perfectly formed. It contains works by South American artists - primarily Colombian. It covers periods from the 50s up until today, with dedicated rooms for artists such as Alejandro Obregón and Enrique Grau. Our big concern is... More
