Authentic old world city. Nothing fake about it. If you want to get the feel (a bit claustrophobic to me) of what a city was 500 years ago this place will do it. A lot of the streets are dedicated to looting tourists via quaint souvenirs but wander inward onto the less traveled streets and look around (We were there... More

This was my first time in Cartagena. It was total cultural immersion for me. I found the walled city to be utterly charming, very old and people very much tried to please. The best bet is to walk the streets with no plan in mind and discover on your own. Keep an eye out for all those beautiful old doors... More

We stayed for a few days , we were impressed with how clean the streets of the city are. A very interesting mix of small cozy european streets , hispanic culture, soul and caribbean spirit everywhere. A lot of interesting stores in very different price ranges-from high end products to more normal and even low prices. The city is blooming... More

The old, walled part of the city is filled with beautiful examples of colonial architecture. If you haven't been to an old, colonial city before, you'll absolutely love it. But if you've already seen several examples of old, colonial cities, Cartagena isn't particularly unique. Beautiful, yes. But also fairly touristy.

This city is by far the most historic place I've ever visited. The city is so cozy with beautiful streets and the people is most valuable price this place has. Authentic, honest and very funny, they make you feel like home and very safe to walk around. We stayed in Calle La Iglesia and it's absolutely stunning the site seeing... More

We did our tour through a company called Dora the Explorer. Terrific tour guide, and very knowledgeable about the history and culture. Lots to see, but very very hot. Don't forget a hat, sunscreen and water.

Visually stunning the impressive walls extend for miles with small entrances to within, the fortress has original cannons everywhere and the thickness of the outside walls would have been impregnable to attacks, the city within has lots of character with small plazas packed with boutiques and tiny shops together with places to sit and watch whilst sipping coffee or a cocktail,do not... I plan to return to Cartagena one day... it's a hidden gem in Columbia. I had never heard of Cartagena before planning a trip to Columbia. But Cartagena is now one of my favourite places in South America. Gorgeous weather, interesting history, amazing restaurants, picturesque views, nearby beaches and excursions, the list goes on. We loved the walled city and... More

I understand what everyone is raving about, it is a wonderful city. Was very annoyed though by the constant buzz of street vendors, every vendor you pass (and there are a lot, believe me) needs to hear 4x 'no, gracias' before they leave you alone. And it must be said, it is a very very hot city :)
