The Quinta is just outside the centre of Santa Marta and it's very easy to get there (fromt the centre a taxi costs 6000 COP).It's sorrounded by a huge garden with some spectacular trees filled with iguanas! You can see the rooms where Bolivar spent his last days and died and you can also visit some arts exhibitions inside the Quinta.... The Quinta is a pleasant enough place to walk around. A little oasis of calm in an otherwise bustling city and a very decent small art gallery. But if you're looking for something of Bolívar, you won't really find it here. There's a pretty random collection of old bits & pieces not much connected with the great man. The closest... More

The Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino is a good historical site to visit, it's where Simon Bolivar the liberator of Colombia spent his last few days. The old colonial mansion has been renovated into an art museum and Simon Bolivar's last residence is displayed so you can see where he slept etc. There are also beautiful gardens to explore. There... I enjoyed my time at this outdoor museum. Before visiting here, I really didn't know that much about Simon Bolivar, but by the time I left, I had learned a wealth of information. At the entrance, you will see many beautiful Benjamina Ficus Trees, which Bolivar loved. There are many artifacts on display showing his furniture and collection of sand... More

Get a cab to do a city tour, it´s cheaper and you can stop wherever you like. Try to go in the morning and avoid to much heat, there is no air conditioning. The place is beautiful.

A short bus ride from Santa Marta Centro in Buenavista. 10,000 COP for adult entry. The buildings are very interesting and some of the trees are fascinating to look at. look out for the iguanas sitting in the trees. At first, I wasn't sure if they were real because they sit so still.

Quinta de San Pedro was located close to our hotel. We took a taxi cab and got there in about 15 minutes. One detail we loved was the help from school kids who serve as Spanish language tour guides. They do a great job of explaining the history and details of La Hacienda. Of great importance to us was to... More
