About
Trsat Castle represents a strategically embossed gazebo on a hill 138 meters above sea level that dominates Rijeka. As a parochial centre it was mentioned for the first time in 1288. Trsat Castle is one of the oldest fortifications on the Croatian Coast, where the characteristics of the early medieval town construction have been preserved. Today Trsat Castle, beside the Bazilisk souvenir shop and the Gradina coffee bar, is enriched with new facilities – gallery space where art exhibitions are held as well as open-air summer concerts and theatre performances as well as fashion shows and Literary evenings. Within Trsat Castle, at the Petra Zrinskog b.b. Address, is the Trsat Castle Info Point where any information about this building and the town of Rijeka can be found.

We took a 20 minute local bus ride up to Trsat Castle situated on a hill overlooking the town.
The Castle seems to be mainly used for functions, weddings, parties etc. It is not a particularly good tourist destination with a few accessible walls and views but little else. Best part is it is free.
Probably not worth the bus ride.

The trek begins at the Peter Kruzic stairway. The stairway consists of 561 stone steps that lead to the famous pilgrimage site, the Church of Our Lady of Trsat. Since it was a holiday the day we went, there were hundreds of people at the church and castle. About ¾ of the way up there is a water fountain to get a drink and refill your water bottle. The views from the castle are amazing. Entrance into the castle is free. There are free bathrooms located next to the restaurant in the castle. There also are several restaurants and stores outside the castle and there are several street vendors selling religious items near the church.

The view and the atmosphere here is something that's hard to describe. I love old castles and forts, it's the one thing I make sure to check no matter where I go. The only minus to Trsat visit is that the highest tower is inaccessible for some reason. The pictures you can take here however are nothing short of amazing. It's like being in a different world.

This was my 4th time visiting Trsat. I can't wait to come back. I feel like I step back into the 13th Century. I love how they decorate the grounds during the holiday with all the pretty lights. It was really cold but still worth going to the top for the view of Rijeka. It was dark when I arrived, which made the experience that much more cool. Definitely a must stop when in Croatia. Thank you, from Las Vegas...Michael

Nice view of the city and surroundings. Overall, nothing special, I wish there is something more authentic. There is one café with loud and modern music, for me it is not a good fit with the castle. They could have decorated it differently to give visitors a better experience of the castle.

We self-drove to the castle and found a spot to park along the side of the road and walked up. I was expecting to have to pay, so was surprised when you could go in for free. It’s a small site with stairs and cobblestones so have solid footwear. It is more a cafe/bar with techno music playing than a castle and felt it was like two worlds colliding. That being said-great views of the city.

October late, still plenty of Sun Shine to make most of, especially at this picturesque spot of Rijeka. No parking fee to pay, no tickets to buy. Throughly enjoyed our day at Rijeka and Trsat Castle was a bonus.

This was the first castle we visited on our holiday and we were not disappointed.
It is a very well preserved castle and you can have a drink and sit and enjoy the views.
We actually didn't realize we had to park on the main road and then walk the rest of the way so we had to go around and back up but it's not a far walk.

Made sense to quickly visit while lunching in rjeka. Very quick and easy to walk round partly due to having a coffee shop in the middle which makes loafs of sense. Worth the quick trip with free parking nearby.

Do you need a ticket to go into the Trsat? Can you buy the tickets in advance? Is the line long to buy tickets?
Written September 17, 2019
Most of the year entrance is free. You should just check is there any events during your stay in Rijeka.

Ich finde es am Tag schoener. Die Aussicht auf die Kvarner Bucht ist am Tag beeindruckender.
