This is a lovely peaceful spot on the quietest and most peaceful of the 4 inhabited islands in the Galapagos. It’s the best stretch of beach near the village, right in front of the Wittmer Hotel, and is regularly used by tour groups who want to do a quick snorkelling session off the beach: the entry is sloping soft sand and it’s ideal (though La Loberia beach, half a mile walk to the south, has yellow sand, less beach but also has sea turtles to swim with, and stunning views). A great place to stay is the 2 bedroom Black Beach House, at the back of the beach, run by Ingrid another of the Wittmers. She also now has a small informal bar area under the trees in front of the house - great for a drink post-swim, or in the evening. Just a lovely spot altogether: we fell in love with it.

Black beach is in the town, but is often deserted. Snorkeling here is often amazing: turtles, younfz sharks (harmless). Clear water. No current.

This beach is small but perfect in it's own way.
It's quiet and peaceful even though there is a small bar near by.
The water is chilly but refreshing and the sand is beautiful.

Is a huge contrast to other beaches in the island, if you go to Punta Commorant the second beach has extremely white sand. This was the first black beach I've saw in Galapagos, it doens't look nice, but it nice to see different.

A short walk from our accommodation at the Lava Lodge and we arrived at the black sand beach. Gritty black sand with the opportunity to snorkel, although we elected to walk for a few minutes further along the bay, where the sand was fine, and where we could see the Sea Lions. Whilst snorkelling was an option, we elected to enjoy the solitude and relax on the beach.

We went snorkeling here on our morning in Floreana. Saw some wildlife while snorkeling but didn't seem like that great of a morning for it. The beach had beautiful black volcanic sand.

We got to experience snokling with turtles and lots of different types of fish. What a wonderful beach. The sea lions are lounging on the beach with you.

The sand is indeed black. But who cares when you can snorkel with giant turtles! We also saw puffer fish and sea lions.
