Functional structure

May 2019

Dating back to the late nineteenth century, the white building is a functional structure. It now stands in the Miracle Park near the Port of Batumi among the other attractions in the Park. Nothing special here. It does what it is supposed to do - guide ships. Probably great for a nice selfie.

Pitsunda Lighthouse

Pitsunda Lighthouse is the correct name for this lighthouse that dates from the second half of the nineteenth century. Previously displayed white and red lights but now solely white. A lone figure of antiquity in the midst of modernity and entertainment.

A Black Sea Lighthouse with history - not to be overlooked.

Once a Batumi landmark

This 20m high tower once was a beacon for ships approaching Batumi's harbor. Designed by French engineers, built in 1882, it was a functional structure. Now its status is degraded to that of an attraction in a theme park along with other 'miracles'.

Still the tower reveals a lot about the status of the port of Batumi at the end of the 19th century. Imagine the lighthouse standing there alone on a flat stretch of pebbles with a small dock beyond.

Dwarfed by its Surroundings

Historically fascinating but totally dwarfed by the Alphabet Tower and the Ferris Wheel. It was a shame there didn't seem to be much listed nearby giving its history I couldn't see that one could go up the lighthouse.

Batumi lighthouse, which is still working, shows that the city is not only interested in its future, but also sticks to its past.
Set against a blue sky with dramatic clouds and before the many hotel highrises of Batumi Boulevard, this little white lighthouse is a lovely photo motive.

Small lighthouse

This is a small lighthouse located in the Miracle Park end of Batumi Boulevard. It's in good condition and close to the Alphabetic Tower and the ferris wheel. Looks quite good in the evening.
