About
The history of transit navigation via Batumi sea port dates back to old times. In 1878 Batumi sea port was announced Porto Franco (till 1885) meaning a free trading port. The decision was made with purpose of increasing Batumi sea port’s turnover of goods. Then there arose the necessity of constructing a new sea port.

At first sight, will seem to us that this port is deserted, the ships that moored weren't operated for long periods. But, after some stares, you will see the motions of people who clean and make order on ships. But, everything doing only for people's looks.
This place is located not far from the center of Batumi. You may reach this location by walking for example from European Square.
Nice place to snap a picture of the view of the ship. Unfortunately, this is all that will be said about this port.

Most tourists only see a small section of the port that is close to the city's "Miracle park". Small vessels offering boat tours, but also some commercial ships dock along the city quay.

Further away is the larger seaport with its important oil terminal where oil from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan is discharged into tankers bound for Europe. Another huge project to transport mineral fertilizers from Central Asia to Europe is under way. There is also a modern container terminal with storage capacity.

Historically -since its completion in 1900- the railway link with Baku on the Caspian sea coast in Azerbaijan made Batumi prosper. It is also possible to travel on this line as a passenger.

This area is great to just stroll through and see the people around. There was lots of activity at the harbour and play area and you can also buy food and drinks easily. There are also several nice restaurants right near by.

Located on the black sea, this is one of the most important ports in Georgia. The old port of Batumi is next to the Miracle Park and you will definitely pass by it on your visit to the city. You can see the many ships and equipment tied there. The main port is further down. It is not really a tourist attraction unless you have a real interest in ships and maritime transport. So you can just pass by it or just stop for some photos.

Lovely water front development in the port area of the city of Batumi. Promenade, restaurants, shops and attractions. Well worth a visit if the weather is pleasant. Plenty of car parking as well around the place.

Very nice humble harbour area. Some good restaurants right at the water serving traditional foods. A boat trip is cheap and an absolute must for your Bucket List!

Practical Tips:
Take a 15 minute before sunset boat trip and experience a jaw-dropping sunset over the Black Sea while you get entertained by dolphins around you. Take your own drinks and snacks on the boat. Do not miss this experience

A lot of yachts in the harbor. There are also a lot of very expensive shops. The harbor was nice as we were there. On a beautiful day. Unfortunately we had a tour guide who walked way too fast for our group and didn't wait for us all to catch up before very quietly describing what we were seeing. For that reason, I would not recommend a stop at Sochi.

The port is small but busy with plenty of small boats and a few big boats and cargo ships. The port connects Batumi to Istanbul and the rest of the world through black sea. So plays important part in regional progress.
The view around is nice with a lot of glittering lights during the evenings.
