Rani Ki Vav is the oldest and the grandest stepwell in the state of Gujarat. It is situated at Patan and is believed to have been built during 1022 to 1063 AD. The construction was completed by the widowed queen Udayamati. She was the wife of King Bhimdev I, son of Mularaja, the founder of the Solanki dynasty of Anahilwada Pattan. It is a richly sculptured monument and a major tourist spot in Patan. The size of the Rani Ki Vav is so huge that the tourists appear to be ants climbing an anthill.

It's about 100kms from Ahmedabad and place knows as Patan. Been there with my family and had an awesome experience. It's a UNESCO heritage site and nicely maintained. Although some parts were closed for tourist, still rest all are also beautiful and mesmerizing. A paradise for photographers !!

We were surprised that a very small number of tourists, mostly from Japan, were visiting this extraordinary sculpture of 11th Century. Rani Ki Vav means Queens Step Well. This place was built as a shelter for travellers. There are sculptures of the 10 incarnations (dash avatars) of Lord Vishnu. A few words cannot describe the intricate nature of work and... More

Rani Ki Vav , a world heritage monument excavation started around 1958, extremely well preserved , having rich cultural heritage & history is a must see near Patan Highway. The the intricacy of carvings is a treat to watch. About 7 storeys down & the well is well preserved.

Rani ki vav is close enough to Ahmedabad and just off a very good highway , so you shouldn't miss the chance to visit it. It's a four or five storey stepwell with beautiful carving on the stone walls and pillars.

Rani kivav is an intricately constructed stepwell. It is located on the banks of Saraswati River. This place is simply awosome. It was built with fine art. You can spend all day just looking at the details of different sculptures. Most of the sculptures are in devotion to Vishnu. Must visit if you are a history lover.

This place, being excavated and restored around 1960, has the best preserved carvings of all heritage sites. We hired a guide to help us with the history and the details of the sculptures - both of which we found very interesting. ASI needs to find ways to keep pigeons at bay else they will soon fill the well with their... More
