Went with family to see the yana caves. This was my second trip this year but was first for my family. Last time I visited it was nice and clean. So this time I took my family members but yo my surprise this time it was bad experience.
- Toilets at the top near temple were stinky and out of order (no water). Tourists had to track down 1.6 km to use the restrooms.
- There used to be shops at the top but they have been shut down. I am nature lover too but atleast have regulated beverage outlet. I saw people struggling when they reached on top for a sugary beverage.
- The money charged as parking fees and entry fees people expects more.
Disappointed this time.

One just can’t miss out the Yana Caves from your Gokarna itinerary. The caves are located at around one hour picturesque drive from Gokarna. You have to trek for approx 2 kms along with climbing quite a number of stairs from the parking area to reach the rocks. And reaching the caves is an achievement in itself. There is a small shop at the top which serves amazing lemon soda(must try).

Going into the rocks is amazing.
However I wish there was more information along the way.
1. How many minutes does it take to get to the temple -- around 45 minutes slowly. The first part is a well done mud road. I hope it always remains that way! The second partrt is made of about 300 odd steps to the temple area.
2. From the temple into the caves there are about 60 odd steps. You go there barefoot. Carry a pair of thick socks if you need. It needs about 15/20 odd minutes to go through, come down and then climb another 25 or 30 odd steps to reach back to the temple and descend.
3. We enjoyed the lime soda near the temple and the bottles water.
4. I came back down in 30 mins from the temple to the car park, slowly. I am 64!
5. Refreshments are available down below.
6. There is enough place for about 25 to 30 cars. But more could be parked along the road.
7. I enjoyed it. It does look tiring at my age.
8. I wish there was proper info about time needed, distance remaining etc. Also a scientific, cultural and religious explanatory board!
9. We appreciate the measures for cleanliness.
It is worth a trip.

This is one of the most beautiful rocks that I have ever experienced in India. The trek is a good stretch about 8 kms both ways and involves good 2.5 km walk one way, about 150+ stairs. It is through a jungle so it has some time limit. Not advisable for wheel chairs or prams at all.

Wow, it was an amazing experience and feeling to see this amazing rock structure. one need to see this once in life time. We visited in Nov 22 and the weather was pleasant. We took Kumta route to enter Yana and the trek was about 2 Kms. Along the trek path, we can see water stream flowing.

The place is situated around 50 kms from Gokarna and has become a very popular tourist destination. The caves are huge and magnificent. There are two ways to Yana Caves from Gokarna. If you are planning to visit Vibhuti Falls also, then you need to take the Mirjan-Ramnagar Road. The last part of this stretch is very bad. So, I would recommend a four wheeler for the journey. There is a temple as well as the base point of caves. The entry fee is free.

It’s a remote location, infested with leach .. I think this place is neglected by the tourism department as there is no good information available , how to reach this place ,,, your vehicle should have good fuel reserve and network connectivity issue is there ..

Not only is the outcrop of a rock which forms a cave around a mountain Shivalingam temple, but the approach is a semi-arduous trek which has both a rough stretch as well as cement steps.
A natural beauty, the steps are a little steep for the elderly or for those who have knee problems, but otherwise it's a scenic trip to the top. Must visit
