The best part of the makeup was watching the Japanese tourists. One lady wanted her face painted and it happened. The others watched it fell asleep. The first part was about facial expressions as you can only wonder at the range possible. The second half was fantastic

It took almost two hours for the entire show with the "Make Up" part of the Kathakali dancers alone taking almost 45 min. The make up part took too long and it soon became a bit boring as the performers were putting on their make up and we were just sitting there watching them do their thing.I presume the show... More

I wanted to go to this since I started landing my trip. It was definitely a unique experience. Well worth the money (cheap like $7) We got there early. Nice to relax in the ac and watch the makeup process. Definitely something unique to see. Would recommend it especially if you like the arts.

If you stay in Cochin it is a must to visit the daily Kathakali Show. Kathakali is the classical dance-drama of Kerala. Be there one hour before the show starts and also watch the Kathakali Makeup performance. Each character is instantly recognisable by their characteristic makeup and costume. All the colours used in the make-up are obtained from natural substances... More

Not always easy to follow as we weren't familiar with the legends being represented but still interesting. The make-up session was well explained and fun to watch the character develop before your very eyes. I especially enjoyed the drummer's playing, very involving. Thank goodness we had the "tourist version" instead of the traditional that goes on for hours and hours.

We did not know what to expect and where quite surprised to get a really interesting introduction to Kathakali including the face painting of the actors, the explanations of their gestures and a short traditional play.

I visited the cultural center during the last week of December 2015, that time some Kadhakali play was going on organized by the Ernakulam Karayodam Kadhakali Club, It was really a masterpiece art of Kerala, I really enjoyed it. Many prominent artists in the field od Kadhakali was there, It was a great opportunity to meet them personally.

Visited this 'attraction' as it was booked by my travel agent. Dreadful, over long and uncomfortable. We were made to get there at five pm and spent an hour on the most uncomfortable plastic chairs watching two men apply make up. Several people in the audience fell asleep. The second hour was a bizarre mix of drum banging and facial... More

The dance is truly unique and the program is really good by giving out English handouts about the story beforehand and explaining the art before the actual dance was performed. However, it could've been better if the center did a better job by taking the experience more seriously, with a nice stage and seating or even asking people to take... More

it is a great place to be introduced to KATHAK KALI but the makeup sequence is too long and boring -a constant preamble about history colour used a small slide show with a taped narrative -highlights would have kept the audience spellbound the narrator tried to add some life but a lot could have been done for the fidgeting foreigners...
