The railway station is situated very very near to the bus depot, a lot of hotels and the Padmanabhaswamy temple. The station has good food courts, escalator, lift and stairs. However the IRCTC restaurant needs to improve its service.

Hey guys..this was my first experience of staying in a IRCTC retirement room. I was quite doubtful in the beginning, "whether it would be safe?" Or would I be welcomed with broken bed and stinky loo. But the retirement room in trivandrum central station put all that anxiety to rest. I had booked an AC DOUBLE BED room for 12 hours. The room keeper was a cheerful fellow. Clean sheets, clean bathroom, good AC...the room was recently renovated so the furniture and the flat screen tv were also new. And the rate was damn cheap! We got this room for around 900 rupees which is great, as we needed to just stay overnight and had to catch a train the next morning.
For booking retirement rooms, use the irctc hotel booking portal and using the PNR of your ticket we can book a room either at the source station or the destination station. The time slots are fixed 12 hours/24 hours. We cannot book the room for more than 48 hours. Check In/ check out times are fixed at 7am and 7pm.. no change in that... they wont allow an extra hour or 2 beyond the time slot we have booked.
Eventhough cupboards are available in the room, its advisable not to leave any valuables in the rokm, should you decide to go out for a while.
Do try and utilise this facility as and when avaliable, instead of shelling out more money for the same setup in a hotel.

we reach the tvc station morning 3.30 am.we can stay at AC waiting hall.there is 40/- or 50/- rupees for 3 hours i think. it was neat and clean railway station .and the AC waitinag hall is also neatly cleanly maintained.you should keep your pnr number to enter the AC waiting hall. it was preferable to local town visit to stay in AC waiting hall.we take bath and take rest some time afere we put our luggage in cloak room in railway station. outside of the station there is a great thing is prepaid auto maintained by kerala police .they give slip where ever you go .it was 2 or 3 rupees slip cost. then in the slip fare you can give the auto to reach the destination.we felt happy like the system, because there is no system in so many stations i think.the railway station is neatly maintained we went there in 4 times.

Be careful as I lost all my clothes, small gifts etc. Luckily I had my money and passport in my small rucksack on my back. I was tired from all night train and not as careful as I should have been. I've been told by western friends who live here that this was not something that happens a lot. But still..... Big station across from main bus station so very convenient

Get in and out as fast as you can, however it is fairly organised. You have to pay a toll at the gate to get a taxi and then they give you a fixed price. Quite good.

would like to know the procedure for booking retiring rooms at railway station
Written January 9, 2018
Hi, due to change in train timings, my train now reaches Trivandrum Central Railway Station at 2.40 a.m. instead of 5.40 a.m. Since the hotel in Trivandrum where I have booked a room, does permit a very early check-ins like this (they might not even open the doors), I am thinking of booking a Retiring room at Trivandrum Central in advance for 12 hours till 7 a.m. the morning I reach Trivandrum. At least I can have 4 hours of proper rest.
My concern is whether there will any Railway Staff around to open the room for me at 2.40 a.m. I would appreciate very much if anyone has any idea about this?
