This museum houses artefacts, weapons, paintings, coins from the 17th century Maharashtra, the time during which the great emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ruled Maharaashtra.
This musuem does not have any personal weapon of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as such, but has weapons and coins of those times.
Sadly, the musuem is in a very pathetic state. But do not be surprised, the Maharashtra government and the local authorites never cared for all this. I pity the large-hearted man who donated all these artefacts worth millions of dollars for free to the government, only to be displayed like this.
Yet, I will say do visit this museum. It is still worth it.

The staff did what they needed to do - sold us the ticket and then made the usual little tear in the ticket. The cost of entry is five pence! A bargain you might think however this is probably the most pitiful museum I have ever visited. A shame as the history of Aurangabad is fascinating and some of it still visible - gates and wall.
Some serious investment would be good.

Four Star is only the Collection of the various things but this Place demands Maintenance & attention. Staff seems to be Bored and Not Interested at all. Single thing which they do is check the Ticket and show you the way forwards.
Collection is really good here one if interested can spend good time here.
A good visit from Collection Perspective

The museum was gifted more than 3000 artifacts by a local family . The exhibits at the Chatrapathi Shivaji Museum gives an idea of the military ability of the great Maratha warriors. The Museum has got 6 Exhibition Halls. These display some of the weapons and antiques that were used in the Maratha Empire. The main exhibits here include the 500 year old war suit, a copy of the Aurangzeb’s handwritten Quran, and a 400 year old Paithani sari.
It also has a Marathi translation of a Rabindranath Tagore poem on the glory of the Marathas .
It has coins from ancient dynasties to the Mughals and British and Portuguese colonialists .

This is a very small museum. Very few artefacts but very nice and of historical importance. The coin collection is outstanding.

The museum was pointed out by taxi person so my family stopped to have a look. Place is closed on thursday.Guides are not available. It is a great pity as there is a good collection , reasonably well labelled, of weapons, clothing, various metallic household goods etc.
