Dhauli is a 30-40 minutes drive from the city centre and it was one of the places we loved to hang out while we studied there. The temple here gives you a good view of the city and the greenery around it. If you've read about the story of the Kalinga war and how Emperor Ashoka had a change of heart after that, you should definitely visit and follow the footsteps of history here.

The hill is famous for The Dhauli Shanti Stupa (Peace Pagoda) as it is known was built by the Japan Buddha Sangha and the Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangha in 1972. Built on the site where the famous Kalinga War was fought, the Dhauli Stupa commemorates the mission of peace that the Kalinga War achieved. There are 5 points at hill one should visit- Shanti stupa, Shiva temple, Ashok stambha, River -said to be red with blood during Kalinga war and Tunnel. Last but not least Tigers sculpture and Elephant carvings on stone .Enjoy the nature and peace.

Dhauligiri is a hill located on the banks of the river Daya, The place is famous for the Buddhist Santi Stupa, located at top. This is a historical place as the shanti stupa was built by the ardent followers of Buddhism to mark the conversion of Great King Ashoka to Buddhism here after the Battle of Kalinga. The road to Dauligiri hill is narrow and prone to trefic jam due to tourist vehicles. The Shati Stupa at the top can be reached through number of stairs. Several small shops, selling Puja Prasad, Kaju and other Misc. items are erected at the side of stairs. At 1st level, there is a Shiva temple and in next level, the Shanti Stupa is located, where big statue of Buddha is installed. However, as others said, significance of this place may not be known to many visitors, instead most of the visitors were busy taking pic everywhere without giving any damn to others. It has a nice view of surrounding from the top. As informed by our driver, the Shati Stupa got minor damage in the cyclones, which is even apparent and needs repair

Situated on the bank of Daya River on a small hill top this one is the most popular Buddhist destination of Odisha. The dhauli shanti stupa is just outside the Bhubaneswar City on the way to Puri. Always crowded, the parking is available before climbing the staircases. A lot of vendors selling cucumber, jhal, corn and other snacks adding to the already crowded place. Beware of monkeys here. Big statues of Lord Budhha in standing, sleeping and sitting position are there. The daya river flowing behind the stupa is also magical.

Nothing great but you get a good view from a hill. You can see many Buddha statues in various positions. For people with disability, you still need to walk a few steps and parking is little away from Stupa.

Buddha temple on the hill top one can go up to temple by vehicle road upto there is available. No charges for that.
Don't forget to take a break on Ashoka shila enroute which people usually skip. Some peace thought written on rock by king Ashoka in pali language there and it was properly secured. The main temple was milky white in my childhood but now it's marble lossing it's colour and you found a little crowded in holidays. Nice breeze flowing in temple area on hill top and one can see the green fields around.

Good attraction but very crowded. One has to walk a few hundred metres uphill to reach the Stupa. The Stupa is beautifully built and is imposing.
I also made a stop at the Ashokan Edicts and spend quite some time there. Surprisingly, the Edicts don't attract that much crowd as seen at Dauli Stupa.
The Ashokan Edicts are very well preserved, thanks to the efforts of Archaelogical Survey of India (ASI) and covered in a structure with barred open windows which allow one to photograph the Edicts.

There are no boards anywhere explaining the significance of the place. So I don't even know if half the crowd knew or cared. Just lots of photo clicking groups everywhere. Beautiful views of the country side. There is also a temple which was good.

I visited 1 year before with my friends. It was wonderful. You will know about Ashoka Samrat and many more historic things. Lord Kharabela hand written history will attract you towards the history of Odisha. Avoid going in the afternoon, You will get a sunny day. The best time is in the evening.
