- sachinsengarKanpur, India156 contributionsThe WallThe longest wall of India n the second longest wall in the world is of this fort. The wall is wide enough for 6-7 horsemen to patrol together. The climb on f the port is steep n tiring and should be avoided by older people n any ne suffering from heart problems etc. The fort is famous for the best ne who was born in these walls, Rana Pratap, most famous Rajput king. It’s always good to take the local guide , available always, usually near the ticket window. This fort is at thd borders of Mewar n Maarwaar regions, thus it was more of watch Durg instead of a residential Durg .Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten September 20, 2023

The Shiv temple near the light&sound sitting is beautiful and it's worth spending some quality time here. In winters it's suggested to carry warm clothes after 6 pm. Senior citizens can avoid the trek as it's not an easy one. Views from the top are superb ! Wild safaris in Ranakpur is better than that in Kumbhalgarh. Snacks etc. at the fort is costly. Tip : Buying the Fort entry tickets online is cheaper than at the counter.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 1, 2023
- SahilChrunguNew Delhi, India1,893 contributionsBeautiful Fort with mesmerizing ViewsNestled in the foothills of the Aravalli Mountain Range, Kumbhalgarh near Udaipur is a majestic citadel and a major tourist attraction. Surrounded by verdant forests, the fort attracts travelers due to its pristine location and architectural grandeur. Its 36-km long external wall is the second longest wall in the world, after the Great Wall of China. Having witnessed a large number of wars, the hill serves as the boundary that is unbreakable. The fort that has seven fortified gateways and a number of Jain temples within it , along with the Lakhola Tank which is the most famous tank inside the fort that was constructed by Rana Lakha. The fort consists of a number of Hindu temples and Jain temples that indicate the religious tolerance of the rulers and how they patronized the Jains and encouraged their culture in the kingdom.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 14, 2023
- ruzbehxyzMumbai, India40 contributionsExcellent fortKumbhalgarh is a massive fort and the area for sightseeing is a smaller portion near the main gate and worth the visit. A guide is recommended as you will move in an organised manner, although all the history is available online. The only issue is parking at the fort. Definitely worth a visit.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten January 3, 2024

Unlike other forts in major cities, this one is off the beaten path and not mobbed by people trying to sell you things. It was a very relaxing afternoon for us just walking around on our own.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten February 20, 2024

It's second to the great Wall of China. It's a long walk up to the fort but we loved the experience. The light and sound show at the end of the day was just the perfect ending. - Amrish RughaniVadodara, India19 contributionsAmazing piece of history coming to life, well maintained & preserved historical place Not to miss the light & sound showWorld class ! An amazing piece of history, coming to life. Well preserved and maintained for tourists, very cheap to get in...easy access to food and water nearby within the compound. Roads leading to here are poor but worth the drive and effort for sure. Need about 2-3 hours to walk around inside and explore fully. Trek to the topmost point of the Fort and the view from there is breathtaking. Exploring the various temples, palaces, and step wells within the fort complex was fascinating, each offering a glimpse into the rich history and culture of Rajasthan. The light and sound show in the evening added another layer of magic to the visit, bringing the history of Kumbhalgarh to life in a captivating way.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten June 7, 2024

Mehrangarh, located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is one of the largest forts in India. Built-in around 1459 by Rao Jodha, the fort is situated 410 feet (125 m) above the city and is enclosed by imposing thick walls. ... This gallery displays one of the most important and best-preserved collections of fine and applied arts of the Mughal. Tourist buses, state buses or book a car that one can take from Udaipur or Jodhpur. There's a lot to explore and you can take it further with a hike along the walls. We spent the day exploring, the are a number of local small eateries and places for Chai. However, it is quite remote so I would suggest you pack some provisions and make a day of it. If you are driving from Udaipur or Jodhpur, make sure your driver doesn't insist on staying just for an hour. As there are lots to explore if you take the time. There is also resorts and holiday accommodation nestled into the hillsides on the way to the site if you wished to stay longer and explore the surroundings.

This is the 2nd biggest fort of India. Infact it is a hidden fort, which you can see only once you arrive near this fort (1 k away or so). You cannot see this fort for a far off distance. This was the engineering beauty of this fort, and the King Kumbhal built this secret fort in this way to avoid enemy attack. You will also see more such stories from the guide, and hence it is recommended to visit this fort with a guide (Rs 725) Though costly for a guide, but worth it.
It is a huge fort. 1-2 hours of walk minimum. But you can take breaks in between. So if travelling with kids of senior citizens, just be mindful. There is no water or washroom inside. So have it before entering the fort.
The guide will explain you a lot of interesting facts about this place. One such fact is the 8 inch heigh of King Kumbhal, and he use to worship the 5 inch Lord Shiva idol (Shiv Linga) by sitting. Imagine 5 inch tall Shiv Linga, and King Kumbhal use to perform the Shiv Abhishek (feeding milk) sitting on his toes. How tall he would be.
He use to carry 35k weapons during all the war. Now a days we cannot carry a 5 kg stuff. They use to carry 35kg weapons always. Such was their stamina.
After China, this is the 2nd biggest wall of the world. Yes our Kings built the tallest wall of the world.
Such interesting facts was worth the money paid to guide.
Once you reach the top, the view is amazing, but barren though. You can see the entire Kumbhalgarh area. 360 degree view.
In between the fort, there is a place where you get a very col breeze. you can sit & relax for 10-15 minutes here. You will feel airy & relaxing.
Net net you can visit this place if walking is not a issue. It is a fort experience (place of historic interest).

We visited in the morning around 10.30. The entry fee is 40/- per person. Vehicle cannot go inside the fort. It is better to hire a guide - costs about 500/- Beware of the monkeys as they look for eatable bags. Evening visit can be much better than morning or afternoon.

The fort know for its name Kumbhalgarh named after RAna Kumbha and his descendants Later Rana pratap. Is situated in the aravallis and happens to be one of the largest and highest forts
Though unlike Mehrangarh first of Jodhpur which is more beautiful
This is also a fort which has been thoughtfully constructed.
The fort is clean and no stand alone cameras are allowed but one can carry a mobile phone with camera.
During holidays parking is an issue where everyone is clamouring to park nearest to the fort gate.
Guides are available for inside the fort
Small kids posing as guides also do a good job but they are not allowed inside the fort .
A must visit place

We really get mesmerised with the total fort..
entering through Hanuman pole and Ram pole.. we explore 2 temples..then make ascend to fort..visiting Topkhana, Birthplace of Maharana Pratap, Kumbha mahal..finally reched Badal mahal..the top view from the roof of Badal Mahal with the Walls of fort, claims to be the second largest af Great wall of China, is just mesmerising.
After getting down, we moved towards the other part, veda and Neelkantha Mahadeva Mandir, Pareshnath n Kheda devi mandir, and some other jain temples, we completed our trip.
The full tour taken 3-4 hours, if one want to explore in relax way, a full day here is recommended, the light and sound show here, that we missed as we need to move to Ranakpur, is also famous n worth watching

Kumbhalgarh Fort is located approximatly 40 Kms from Udaipur City along the Aravalli Ranges The structure is a standing testimony of the tactical brilliance of the Mewar kings and the grandeur of their architecture.
A cursory tour of the complex will consume atleast two hours and a detailed inspection will take atleast half a day. The apex of the fort is known as Badal Mahal which is an airy structure from where a panoramic view of the fort and its almost 40 km long rampart is visible. Numerous Jain and Hindu temples dot the complex. These were built by various rulers at different poibts in time.
It would be ideal to ascend the fort during the morning hours when the climate is conducive. Do carry a back pack with water bottles and some thing to snack along.
Entry is chargeable. There is an eatery within the fort complex but not much variety is available in the menu. However, there are plenty of good restaurents on the way to the
fort.
A must see site whike in Udaipur.

As with any other Rajasthan fort, always recommend to visit with a qualified guide for the fascinating history. Some of the terrains around the fort reminded me of Grand Canyon. You can walk up all the way till the top most point if your legs permit, definitely not recommended for senior citizens. A proper visit will take around 3-4 hours to cover the entire fort. Online tickets are available from the ASI site.
Must visit, can't go wrong with this one. But avoid on the crowded weekends as we had to park our car in the last parking which was a good one km away from the main entrance. There were gypsies plying on that 1 km charging 50/- per head for one way.

The fort know for its name Kumbhalgarh named after Rana Kumbha and his descendants Later Rana Pratap. Is situated in the Aravallis and happens to be one of the largest and highest forts. The fort wall boundary is considered to be the 2nd largest wall in the world. The entry to fort is small. Has very limited parking space and is a chaos post 10.30. So try to visit early in the morning. Do not take your vehicle and hire one. Its expensive but still worth avoiding the headache of damage to your vehicle or removing from the crowded area later. Guides are available. Due to Covid, there has been a limit on the entrants and so booking online early morning is advised to secure. You can decide for morning or noon time slots. A decent walk. Not recommended for people with trouble to walk.

One of the many wonderful forts in Rajasthan. The Kumbhalgarh fort is a walk into the history. The structure is huge and magnificient. Reaching the top, you get really good views of the aravalli ranges. You also get to see the 36 km long wall, one of the longest in India and second in the world. The only drawback is lack of proper guides and signages. Inspite of the fort being maintained by the Archeological Survey of India, there is too much of nuisance from local vendors, shops, jeep drivers etc. A lot of part of the entrance has been occupied by this people. They also have a light and sound show that runs every evening at 7 and 8 pm. Something not to miss out for.

can we cover kumbhalgarh fort in one day , In Ranakpur , which are the best places we can see
Written January 18, 2023
Yes it’s possible to cover the fort in about 3-4 hours. Ranakpur is on the way and also possible to be covered in the same trip.
The final stretch to Kumbhalgarh is a pass/ Ghats and speed will be much slower. Also, parking in Kumbhalgarh can be a challenge. It’s advisable to park below and walk up to the fort.

Hi! I presume you will be travelling from Udaipur to Kumbhalgad. In case you are hiring a cab, you can start early morning from Udaipur - it takes about 2 hours as distance is approx 90 kms. I do not know if any bus service available - you have to find out. One hour is enough to explore the fort. Entry ticket is 40/- and there is cafeteria at the fort. It would be economical if you find any other co passenger to share cab fare. Also the Guide fees can be shared .

The Forest and Sanctuary is equally mesmerizing, and must visit to go back in history by few hundred years.
