Being from Hill Station (Darjeeling), which is famous for tea, I wanted to have a look around here. This place is famous in Ooty, and I saw many tourists here.

What makes this place special?
It’s the hard work of people, and the process of making tea is not easy.

But this place is great for learning purposes and if you want to buy tea.
Unfortunately, I didn’t buy tea since my hometown is famous for tea itself and I really don’t drink tea.

Visit only:
Students: only for educational purposes. Many of them may not like it.
Elder: only if they want to buy

Overall it was good.

As the name suggests, has a factory where one can get a demo of the entire Tea Making process which was quite an enriching experience. Has a narrow gallery taking one through the memory lane of the History of Tea. The demo culminates with a fresh cup of Ginger tea which was nothing but mind-boggling. One can purchase not only these Home Grown Teas in different flavors, but also purchase Chocolates and other herbal products. Entry is free. The approach from the back-side entry gate is completely in shambles and better avoided, Advised to take the main entry gate .

We visited the Tea museum in Oct 2021. Its a crowded place and I like to stay away from such places however i was informed that this is the place where you can get authetic Ooty tea and chocolates. You also get to see the process of how tea is manufactured followed by sales shop where they sell the tea. They also have the chocolate manufacturing process displayed. You get complimentary chocolates on displaying your entry tickets and can buy Ooty chocolates in their shop. Nothing great but yes if you want to buy authetic Ooty tea or chocolates this is a good option and hence 4 stars.

You will find this Tea factory while going to Doddabetta or while coming back from Doddabetta. there are two factories in the same road. we went to the second one which manufactures HomeWood brand tea. there is a entrance fee of Rs. 10 for Tea factory. if you want to see museum then Rs. 10 extra (not preferred as you just see few photos/Arts).
Once you enter you will see how the tea leafs are processed. it takes almost 15 min to see the whole process. At the end you can buy "HomeWood" brand Normal tea, Chocolate tea, Green tea which are manufactured over there. they will give one cup of normal tea and green tea free of cost. Once you are done with tea factory go to Chocolate factory which is just next building to it. there you will be able to see how they prepare chocolates and you can buy Fresh Home made Chocolates of different flavors.

Overall a worth place to visit in Ooty and a best place to buy fresh Tea bags/Chocolates!!

You will notice it while going to Dodabetta Peak. The tiled road from main road to the facility ramp is perhaps the best stretch in Ooty. The entrance road ramp to the facility would scare you, owing to its steepness. But to my pleasant surprise, metal of the car did not touch the road. To reach the entrance of the main building from the parking, you need to climb approx. 25-30 stairs. After you have purchased tickets, in the main hall, in front of a process diagram, they play a recorded message which tells you the whole process. Then you go through a guided path, which would take not more than 5-10 min. to see the complete flow. At the end, you get to taste few sips of the common tea. They sell, various variety of tea. We bought 4 varieties. Have tasted one (Strong tea) so far and found it satisfactory. There was a separate section as Chocolate factory and factory outlet. Factory was closed due to Eid holiday. I do not think that it deserves a special trip, though you should not miss it on the way back from Dodabetta Peak.

The Driver, who took me and my friends to Ooty, kept on insisting on going to this Chocolate factory which was supposed to be a great place to visit, so after much reluctance we finally agreed, and what a decision it was.

As it turned out, the place was brimming with people; we actually could not find a place to park the car. So, we just walked up and saw this beautiful glass house on top of a small hill. There is an entry ticket to be made and then you visit this Indian version of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.

Well, frankly speaking the chocolate preparation is not shown step by step here, but what you can see is the Step by Step process of the Tea powder preparation. It was a medium sized factory, which had boards everywhere to shown which machine did what and how the tea-leaves were processed and so on.

Finally, on the floor above was where the Chocolates were prepared. You can choose your favorite chocolates and pack them up.

On the ground floor near the exit door, you get a free cup of tea and then you can also choose what all tea leaves you would like to buy.

*Just be a bit careful because people keep on pushing each other there.

Overall Rating: 4/5

Located on Dodabetta Road this Tea Factory does attract many tourists. It's the highest elevated tea factory in South-India with an altitude of 1839 meters. The entrance ticket is priced at Rs.15 for adults and Rs.10 for children. Even before you enter the factory you get the fresh smell of tea leaves being processed. Once you enter, you start seeing the whole process from step one with an automated voice explaining each step. By the end of the tour, you get 2-3 different types of tea as sample. There are many souvenir shops during your passage where you can buy tea, homemade chocolates, tea cups etc. The Tea Museum is just a place with lots of information which you can avoid unless you like reading about it. Overall, it's definitely a place to visit where you can learn the process involved in making tea which you don't see everyday.
