A beautiful and sacred temple of historical significance. Very well maintained, calm and peaceful and offering amazing views.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, more often referred to as Kartikeya in South India and predominantly worshipped here. An ancient and important deity being the son of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva and the brother of Lord Ganesh. He is the Hindu God of War and intriguingly rides a peacock and wields a bow in battle.

I loved the smaller temple (to the right of and away from the main temple) dedicated to Lord Ganesh - an enigma of ancient spirituality.

Tourist know ooty only as place of attraction like Botanical Garden, Boat House, Dodabetta etc.,. But ooty is also famous for temples of attraction like Market Mariamman temple, Ayappen Temple and Elk Hill Murugan Temple.

Elk Hill murugan temple in the Hills of Elk Hill. Thaipusam is a famous religious festival that is celebrated in January–February to honour Lord Murugan. Kavadi Attam, a dance performed by the devotees is the highlight of this event conducted at the Elk Hill Murugan Temple.

It is 3 km from OOTY bus terminus.

Recently they have installed Standing statue of Murugan similar to that one you can see in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Don't miss it during your visit to ooty next time.

The best place I visited in Ooty.

This revered site is famous for The Elk Hill Murugan Temple dedicated to Lord Muruga (Murugan), and an imposing 40-foot gold statue of the warrior God. With the hillside as a backdrop, a spectacular sight offering a panoramic view of the valley.

There are many steps to climb so wear comfortable shoes.

The temple is situated on top of several stairs. (~200?). If you have problem with staircases, you should skip it. Else it is a very nice view. The temple is situated in middle of complete greenery. That gives you a very pleasant experience.

Very calm serene and divine ambience. Temple is in good height of the Elk Hill. Big vehicles cannot reach this place. Must visit in early morning to experience the holiness along with the cool misty clouds

My wife and I were on a tour of South India and could not get to the Thirupati Temple so went to the Murugan Temple in Chennai. So far it is the biggest temple that we have been to. We are from South Africa and there are no temples like this in SA. Luckily we went at an off peak time as I believe that normally there are big queues to go in. There are lots of beggars at the entrance and our hearts went out to them so bought some food packs at the local hotels and fed them. Sad to see the state that people are living in. If you have the chance to visit your small change will make a big difference.
