Sacred river that needs a maintenance

River is amazingly clean for its reputed pollution, but not really if you consider real-clean. But who cares! Ganga is Ganga, for ever remains so.

Strolling down the Ganges on a boat around sun rise makes you feel so good. One can see the innumerable Ghats on the bank of Ganges. Each and every Ghat has history with it.

What a very fascinating river this is. There is so much activity along the embankment with all the ghats. This is a very holy place and all Hindus should travel to bathe in the Ganges at least once in their life. There are people bathing, dhobi wallah doing washing, many people just being and there are also the early morning... More

Everything happens on the Ganges, bathing, swimming, washing, life, death, yoga, festivals, beautiful light. An ancient city that is awe-inspiring as well as gritty. The full cycle of life is all here. Magical. Avoid the area where people want to grab your hands....it's to pull you in for a massage and they can be quite aggressive. Love the Ganga!

Nurture your spirit with Ma Ganga & artistic lifestyle. Can stay in inexpensive guests house near the Ganga. Delicious Indian Thali & Korean food. Surround yourself with tabla, flute and Indian vocals, experience impermanence at the burning ghats.

this is a must in India- visiting the Ganges, seeing the cremation (no photos out of respect) seeing the occasional wrapped body floating away! looking at the Ghats from the sea, listening to a wise man explaining the traditions, seeing the sunrise & sunset, lots of photo opportunities, the evening ceremony to cleanse the Ganges is also best watched by... Ganges flows slowly and calmly...like a meditation...and all around you the most colourful, amazing and touching scenes of life and death pass by. The fascinating old palaces with the Ghats full of Indians bathing in this sacred river...you could drive around with a boat, or just sit on the bank for hours! Must get back on day !

A boat ride on the Holy Ganga River is not to be missed. It was peaceful and calming, a welcomed experience from the hustle and bustle of Varanasi. Here, you can a excellent view of the ancient architectures built along Ganga River.

Just walking along the Ghats of the Ganges river is a lesson on history and culture, from the nightly Hindu prayers to the burning of the dead, to the roaming cows. It was my favorite place in India to just BE.
