Sat on uncomfortable wooden benches for nearly 2 hours. About 50 men sat in a circle shouting cha cha cha every so often. The fire dance part is just a guy dressed up in a costume kicking hot coal around. Not my thing

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this but it was pretty amazing! There must be over 50 men chanting and singing in rhythm where it is mesmerising.
A lot of effort has been put into the costumes and the dancing is amazing. The trance dance with the fire at the end is also very different and is a must see.
The show goes for about an hour and the temple does give you the story so you can follow what is happening in the performance.

A must do if in Ubud! We were lucky that it didn’t rain on us so I’m not sure how that would affect the performance but we had a great time! Arrived just after 7pm to get good seats and we were all mesmerized the entire show! I recommend reading the pamphlet before so you have idea of the story the dance is telling but you really don’t need to understand it to enjoy the chants and visual performance they excel at. They sell beer right out front for the show as well and have a bathroom close by. A highlight!

This was a once in a lifetime experience! I know the Ramayana well, but even my friends who did not were in awe. The Fire Trance Dance (part2) was exciting! I sat on a low bench in the very front and felt like I was part of the performance.I will attach photos but they can’t capture the dynamism

This event is by far the best that Ubud had to offer in tourist attractions. You do not want to miss the Pura Dalem lit up to highlight its gorgeous stone statues, the quality of the Kecak dancers, and the incredible trance dance to end the night. Get there early to nab the best seats! Don’t miss this!!

The place where the Kecek dance is performed is very beautiful with a possible very beautiful sunset. Like everywhere in Bali, many shops and restaurants have been added here. the parking lot is very large. There are currently 2 shows per day. It is something special and we think the Kecak show is very cool. How they managed to sing with Kecak for so long is a mystery. Be careful with food and drink, because the monkeys will take it away.

We went on a Friday evening and tickets were easy to get right in front of the Pura itself. I was afraid that the show would not go on as it was very cloudy, but they had back-up; firstly you can buy umbrellas there and secondly, when it did strat to drizzle, they moved all of us to the covered building right next to the open space! The move was fast and smooth and the show went on. We were mesmerised !!! That evening left a mark with us, truly enjoyable! The pura itself is very beautiful and with all the evening lights, it's very atmospheric, mystic. Enjoy the evening at Pura Dalem !

We saw the Kecak (monkey chant) performance by the Semara Madya troupe at Peliatan, a village 10 minutes drive from central Ubud. This troupe specialises in the kecak, and performs once a week on Thursday night. This was my favourite experience in Bali.
The temple setting of the performance is very atmospheric, with most light being provided by a tier of lamps in the centre of the stage. The performance seemed genuine, with a priest lighting incense and sprinkling holy water on the performers at the start. There is a circular chorus of about 50 "monkeys" who provide the background chak chak sound. The undulating chorus and arm movements to symbolise fire and wind, are mesmerising. There are also other characters with ornate costumes, including a king, princesses, a monkey god and king, and a garuda bird. The female characters are graceful and beautiful, with their legong-like movements.
A return shuttle is included in the price, with pick-up right outside the Ubud tourism office in Monkey Forest Rd. Tickets are only 75,000 rp (about $8) and kids are half price. Avoid the crowds flocking to the dance performances at Ubud Palace, and support this village community. There were only about 20 people in the audience, so you get a close-up view wherever you sit. I was sorry there weren't more people to see the dance, as the performers put their heart and soul into it.

First of all, I don't understand the dance.
Secondly, there is no music. The "music" was made up by human voices of more than 20 men. The dancers and these men sat around the giant candlestick and dancing not for the audience, because they weren't facing the audience half the time!
The highlight of the show was the kechak fire dance, whereby the "dancer" in trance were kicking the fire-lit coconut husks around the stage.
To think that I paid Rupiah 75,000 for this!

I'm not sure what other reviewers were watching. This was a complete and utter waste of time and money. For 1 hour, we along with the rest of the audience sat down with no clue about what was going on (there was a synopsis on paper but this was unclear). The show was so boring that a number of people in the audience fell asleep. For the most part, this felt like a bit scam. This was until the last 5 minutes when there was a small fire-dance which was incredibly dangerous - there was hot embers and smoke flying in the direction of the audience (including small children and some babies). Needless to say, I would not recommend this to anyone.

Hey there, I apologized for the delayed reply upon your message since a year ago!
Well, we do have to reserved and book for a ticket in advance upon the show and yes, we can get the ticket by walk-in.
Things to consider, be there on-time to get the perfect spot during the show and bring repellent and wear your most comfortable outfit (:

Hi there i was just wondering if this tour comes with dinner? If not is there an option to have dinner or should we eat before or after? Cheers
Written April 12, 2018
No dinner option. Plenty of restaurants nearby for before or after the show.

Apakah diperbolehkan untuk menonton pertunjukan ini ketika sedang datang bulan?
Written January 13, 2018
Halo Fanny, maaf baru balas..
Terima kasih
