A lot of historical information about the rulers of Medan including their contribution towards the development of Medan. The palace is well maintained. The Meriam Puntung is also inside the same compound. The Maimun Palace provides internal guide who will explain the various artifacts and information about the royal family.

There are no small towels for face or hands but they are provided if you ask for extra. Laundry facilities are available 24 hours with conditions. 24 hour reception. The restaurant is only open until late but the room service is quite good and the small pool is only open until 8pm, thank you Andhika for the information

On august 17th 2017, i visited Istana Maimun located at Sultan Ma'moen Al-Rasyid no. 66 A U R Medan Maimun, North Sumatera. If anyone wants to take pictures using traditional Malay clothes, maimun palace provides rental clothes with Rp.10000. This place is highly recommended for families or tourists who are on a kemedan holiday because the maimun palace is one of the historic places .

Quite disappointed with this Palace. History on display is interesting but artifacts are aged and also damaged. Palace is not that big. You can also dress up as Royalty and have your picture taken for a fee. Overall, quite disappointing.

Nothing much to see. Welcome by traditional music, followed by the Sultan proclamation area and some Sultan Dress Codes and furnitures and chandelier. 2 floors building but only 1st floor is for visitor and entrance fees is IDR5K. There is souvenir shop inside the palace.

Need to give a facelift to the building and utilize the furnitures and stuffs that left unattended at a corner.

For IDR10k as the entrance fee, there's nothing much to see inside except for the sales girl who will approach to you try the traditional costume (chargeable).

As the Royal palace of Sultanate of Deli, Maimun Palace stood slightly dim right infront the Great Mosque in Medan.

The decor are heavy with Malay style- the use of yellow as the main colour. Still has the original furniture and throne display at the palace, unfortunately the condition are not very good, some preservation definitely needed to maintain its glamour. The painting of the Sultans are not preserve properly so is some of the Chinas and silverware. My tour guide from the Palace was knowledgable, I enjoyed the history lesson. Thank you!

Best, Diana

Nothing much to see. Entrance is at 5k rupiah per person. Very small palace where the history is somewhat lost and does not stand out, in my opinion. It took us less than 7 mins to cover everything.
If you are into photo taking with cheesy Indonesian/Malay traditional costumes, this is the place for you. Photo studio palace would be an apt description for this place.
When we were there (Saturday afternoon), it was crowded with local visitors and school children on excursion sitting around the halls.
I’d say..enough to just see, appreciate the building from outside and read up on the history.

Very limited area to walk around. The place is hot too. I guess the people visit the palace to see and be dressed like a prince and princess!

Once it is the Istana of Sultanate of Deli and now becomes a museum and an icon of Medan. Beautiful interior decorations and some antique artifacts are for display. Tradition costumes are for hire from the souvenir shop for a minimum fees for you to take photography. Recommended.
