Amazing statues!

The starues in downtown Artesia, New Mexico are a must! They tell the story of the people and oil of New Mexico!

Downtown Artesia is a good place to take a walk after having been behind the wheel a few hours. I probably drove by the sculptures twenty times before I got out and looked around. It's definitely worth the time to check it out.

We were delighted by the street sculptures in Artesia. You got a real sense of the past with the western Chisholm Trail and cowboy pieces, as well as the school marm. The current day was represented by the oil field statues, while the children reading and the classic books seemed to hint at a great future. I must mention the... More

Allow yourself time to stroll the streets of Artesia and see all the bronze sculptures. Area history in bronze!

Really very surprised to find the sculptures, we walked all around town finding them. There is also a awesome antique store that is a must visit.

We loved all these sculptures. Learned a lot of history on Billy The Kid. They were very detailed. Loved them.

The Oil Rig Sculpture is really cool. Location was very easy to walk or drive to from the hotel area of town. Water fountain was peaceful with a little history on the oil industry and the working elements of an oil rig.

Take time to read each historical sign and appreciate the larger than life characters of Artesia's story. The easy walk through downtown is less than 1 mile round trip. Each sculpture tells a part of the story from unfenced ranching to oil drilling. Well worth the time!

I took a year planning the route to take us through the “musts” of the area, but more importantly, which guided tours we should choose, what local (rather than chains) businesses, restaurants and hotels among so many to sponsor. We chose wisely when we went with Heritage Inn, in the small town of Artesia, an hour away from Carlsbad Caves.... More
