Came here with a group of 30 fellow pilgrims and were grateful for the historical perspective it gave us. The location of this site, in relation to the Church of the Annunciation, left us with a clear impression of how small Nazareth was in the time of Christ. The church itself has many beautiful icons and painted walls and is well worth the visit for inspiration as well as the history.

This is part of the premises of the Church of the Annunciation. Looks ordinary and somewhat un-maintained as you feel like there should be a running water on it for symbolical purposes and some marble description. Our tour guide didn't mention it also in his discussion of the significance of the church in Catholic faith. As tradition holds, this is where the Archangel Gabriel first approached Mary, and revisited her in Mary's Cave.

May not have much physical attractions here but the place was being blessed with St.Mary bringing water daily and reminiscence of the message of Jesus birth being echoed. There is St Gabriel Church nearby depicting St Mary's Visibility.

Mary's Well, located in the center of downtown Nazareth, no longer has water flowing to it, however in place of water seems to be used as a garbage can. It's wonderful they built a structure over the well, seemingly wanting to mark it as a historical and important place. Yet then they allow it to be filled with litter. It was quite sad.

This is Mary's Well, which is where the Archangel Gabriel is reputed to have visited Mary, and gave her the glad tidings of her impending birth of Jesus. This story has profound ramifications both in respect of Islam and Christianity.
I have visited this landmark a few of times, most lately in Feb 2014.
The well is still partially in operation and one can hear the water gurgling within its depths. There is some water visible from this water source in the nearby bascilla.
Whilst the cultural, social and spiritual implications of this site are hugely profound, the well is quite underwhelming. On one occasion, we were waiting at the bus stop opposite the well on graduation day. A large number of people celebrating their graduation parked their cars nearby and had what appeared to be a fabulous time! Its evident that this landmark still holds serious weight in the eyes of both residents of Nazareth, Palestine, and also the world at large.
Nazareth has numerous sites to visit, and I would certainly recommend packing this into your list of sites to visit!

Mary's Well actually has no religious value: the original place of the well is inside the Greek Orthodox Church of saint Gabriel, few meters away from the site. During the ottoman regime, they built two tunnels to take the wAter out of the church so that people won't have to go into the church to fill their jars. The site itself is symbolic to the city and was rebuilt twice since the beginning of the twentieth century. What might be interesting for tourists is the piazza behind the site, where most of nazareth's great hotels are situated and where the church of saint Gabriel reside.

Visited here as part of a pilgrimage but was not taken by the church that has been built over Mary's Well as it is filled with gaudy, tacky decorations which spoil it. The well itself is set well back in the church and has iron railings around it. I feel that it should have been left in the open in it's original setting as this is the authentic well where Mary would have drawn water outside in the open. The church is ugly inside and a complete distraction from an otherwise A1 site. Also, outside, the place is plagued with street sellers trying to foist their tat upon you so try not to make eye contact or they will follow you around and hassle you till you buy something.

If you are already in the area, then you can look for this place.
Very easy to missed.
I read about it , so we were looking for it, thinking it was going to have a big sign.

No unfortunately. May I add it’s a steep walk up hill from church and really nothing to see as now surrounded by shops and cafes....nice to visit but on reflection not really worth it . Sorry. Also if I had time again I would have waited for the 4 hours to see star beneath church of nativity ....regret.
