I found the grayyard facinating but it is not well kept as there is rubbish and alcohol bottles strewn all over the place! I loved walked round there and the history behind it makes it woerh a visit.

...was there a decision taken by local administration never to restore or maintain this attraction or was it to let dead people lie...come on give these people buried here some respect...you are not missing a thing if you dont visit this place...but well like me for the lack of doing anything else I visited this place...

I came across the Bel Air cemetery when I was driving towards the Eden Island. The place was calm and serene lined up with trees and bushes but then there was more to it than eyes can see.

It was possibly lacking maintenance and that it could have been made more pleasant. There was dirt and filth on few corners and did not look good for the poor souls resting in peace out there.

The cemetery is in ruins, needs to be taken care off. There is no information available to help visitors. There is a giant buried there, but the lack of information makes it nearly impossible to know where he was buried. It holds a lot of history but needs to be maintained in order to enjoy it fully.

Just another cemetry, with even better ones there in Mahe near the Botanical Garden. This is tree-lined, so feels nice if the weather is good. Not sure if we were allowed to enter. Did not see a lot of graves though.

We saw the Bel Air Cemetry as one of the attractions in Mahe. On stopping there on our way to Botanical Gardens, we realized that it's just a small cemetry which is tree lined and hence looks marginally pretty. Nothing to be really visited specially for. There was a much bigger and much prettier cemetry, closer to the Botanical garden when we were going there from Beau Vallon.

The old cemetery of Bel Air is definitely a must see in Victoria - in fact it's one of the few true historical monuments of the city.
However, despite it's historical importance its quite shabby and not in great shape. It looks like that locals sometimes use it as a central hidden spot to party.
Nevertheless the atmosphere of the tombstones within the thick rainforest is subbing, so don't miss it!
