Somehow the lineup of state office buildings along a narrow reflecting pond didn't hit me as all that scenic. People were relaxing around the place on a Sunday afternoon in August, but the surface of the floor isn't that pretty and it just doesn't inspire.

The Empire Plaza is a beautiful attraction in Albany due to free concerts, and plaza events and festivals throughout the summer. In the winter, there is ice skating.

We were pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the architecture and the way this space is set up. Very interesting buildings - I found them to be elegant to look at. The Egg is unique, the Capitol stunning at one end, the New York museum...More

Differing genres of architecture. Quite modern in part. However, looking down the mall towards the State Capitol building, you will find that some of this architecture obscures the lovely old building!! (Did no-one notice?) The underground mall is quite empty and eerie. Especially in the...More

We stopped here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. If you're into architecture, there's a variety of styles. The NY State Capitol is a gorgeous building that people can actually visit and take tours in (except weekends and holidays). The There is the Corning Tower,...More

If you're not from the area, this is definitely a place worth stopping. It's near the museum as well as the Capitol. Either way, it's a nice place to stop and visit on a good weather day.

This is kind of a must stop if in Albany. It would be sort of strange if you came here and did not come see the state capital. The plaza outside is very lovely. My husband and I came here in March so none of...More

Unusual architecture featuring "The Egg" - used for performances. The underground portion is apparently used for a variety of public events. It also lets you escape from cold and windy weather!

The whole building and area is very interesting especially from architecture point of view. This is besides the state Capitol building the icon of Albany. The area is not very busy during the weekend but during the week, I would expect the area to be...More

It's a small rink, but free if you bring your own ice skates. They supplied skating aids for the kids, and it was a nice outdoor setting in the empire state plaza.

There are several dining options at the Empire State Plaza. Most of the options are found in the underground concourse but some of the Plaza's other buildings have eating options as well. A full list of dining options... More
