This Gate is the last remaining link with the Portuguese builders of the original fort in 1588 and is located on the North wall. The Coats of Arms that are visible date from the Dutch and British colonial eras. Great history and a must see in the fort.

If you come from the mainland this gate is on the left hand side of the fort. This is the original gate of the fort. When you pass through this gate you have this special feeling as if you are entering a time machine. As if you are entering history...
When the British took over Galle Fort they moved the insignia of the Dutch East Indian Company (VoC) to the back and replaced it with the British coat of arms. Both coat of arms can still be seen today.
This is a very special place.
Cars, three-wheelers, motorcycles and bicycles use this gate. So be careful when taking pictures!

This one is one of the best gates which allow the entry to the old town.
I was already inside and so I went towards the wals to see this gate.
Very beautiful is the British Coat of Arms at the top of the gate.

The oldest gate of the fort, built by the Portuguese, is an arch in the wall of a long warehouse building, which was also the wall of the fortress.
