We walked around the walls and the old town and finished here. It taught us about the history of both Sri Lanka and Galle with some interesting artefacts.

The museum we visited for a 300 rs price was in the old dutch warehouse, and while I found it worthwhile, there was zero maritime history re the Dutch, Portuguese, Brits. et. al. The museum we visited was about fishing, fishing canoes, how it all...More

We were a bit confused by the conflicting reviews - there are some reviews saying that the museum is small and not well maintained, there were other reviews that stated that the museum was amazing and large. Turns out there are TWO museums, which might...More

We were exploring the area when it started to rain whilst we were outside the museum so we decided to pop in. It was pretty small but for a few dollars it was a very interesting museum. Check it out if you're in the area.

Thought it's focus is marine archaeology, there is masses of clearly set out info on many aspects of Sri Lankan life and history. After our visit, much else fell into place. Excellent helpers.(PS. The video is a bit long and over-earnest!)

A very poorly maintained museum which is badly in need of a revamp. Has some old aretefacts but by and large a very boring place

Best new museum we have been to in a long while. The enormous internal space has been magically used to explore the last 5,000 years of Galle and its harbour's history of trade, navigation, and ship evolution, plus the story of all its invasions. Magical...More

Some interesting pieces but the explanations were vague and not very specific. More of a 'look what we found in the harbour' than a story of Galle's maritime past. High entry fee in hindsight.

Again, this is a bigger place than you think. You can see it all in an orderly fashion though, which is good. Plenty of relics from the Dutch occupation in particular. Loved the mannequins.

Very interesting museum, strange that is closes so early as many people come out to visit the Fort and area in the evening when it is cooler. A visit if you want to read everything would take at least 2 hours but some fascinating exhibits...More
