Tours to taroko gorge (bus) from our hostel cost NTD800 so we decided to hire a scooter (NTD350 p/day) instead. We were warned about dangerous mountain roads but honestly it was fine. We had a couple friends come with us (also on scooters) who had barely any experience and they were fine too. The scenery is amazing and so is... More

Did some trekking in Taroko Gorge - must be able to walk. Those with walking disability not advisable as lotsa rocks. Raining cannot go as risk of rocks falling. Whole mountain all rocks and it is amazing that they are so huge and so many different colours. Love the cool weather there. There is a 1.3km trek which is accessible... More

This made my trip was so special. Stunning view and indescribable the beauty of nature. Even this place is a bit far from Taipei but if you have time this place should not be miss from my point of view.

I was there in 1985 and was a bit rough back then. I had to walk out on a back country trail to bypass a land slide just happened. This time with family and hired a guide, we went to hiking trails, nature hot spring spot and old war supply trails that I did not see last time, well worthwhile.

Visited the gorge as part of our tour of Hualien. Be prepared for a bit of hiking and walking but the scenery and views are worth the effort. Definitely a must do when in Hualien.

The main walk around Taroko Gorge is beautiful. Bear in mind, however, that it takes some time (it is 3km in total), so go with good shoes (I've seen ladies in heels!) and don't forget to bring water & some food. At the far end of the walk, you will find some temporary stalls where you can buy drinks, but... More

Just driving around the gorge is an amazing experience. Cant leave Taiwan without seeing this! There are Many trails to walk, Some more special than others. You Will need two full days to see it all, but I recommend informing which are the best and just go one day.

This is the best thing I have done in Taiwan by far. A fantastic experience and not to be missed by anyone who can ride a bike.

Taroko Gorge is one of my very favorite places on this earth and I was pleased to be able to take my adult daughter for a visit. The walls of the Gorge, made of marble, rise vertically hundreds of metres. At some points, the gorge is extraordinarily narrow and one feels that one can almost tough the wall opposite. During... We drove and it was one of the most exciting road trip ever! The drive up was slightly dangerous due to the wet rainy weather, and we had to be wary of slippery roads, oncoming trucks, boulder falls and landslides. The sense of accomplishment plus the breathtaking views were worth it though. It awes you with its natural beauty and... More
