We climbed Lengai in December and had a good experience. Only down side were our guides. You have to use guides arranged by the village elders and like ours didn't really want to climb. I would recommend warm clothes especially for the rest stop near the top. Gaiters, gloves and walking poles (for half the climb and descend) were my saving... More

About 4 and a half hours from Arusha by local bus. Be prepared to pay different gate fees. I had to pay 20.000 TSH twice at different gates on the way and another 35 dollar gate fee at the gate of lake Natron. Different lodges like the Maasai Giraffe Ecolodge and safari companies offer tours to climb the Mountain of... More

Oldonio mountain is an active volcano since it was erupted some years ago. So, the lava is obvious on the northern and western slopes. The view is fantastic from Engeresero. If someone wants to climb the mountain must pay 100 usd to the office at the village.

Hiking Ol Doinyo Lengai is TOTALLY worth it!!! It is an unforgiving hike as it is straight up with no switchbacks or flat spots. The dirt is so fine it is like sand and this absolutely makes this a much harder hike then a comparable hike with the same elevation gain. Think about the difference between walking on a nice... I approached this with some trepidation having read the various reviews. Ultimately, I would say it was nothing like as tough physically as I expected, but it was far tougher mentally than I could have predicted. The climb up took us around 4 hours, this was at a very comfortable pace, but as highlighted elsewhere much of it was scrambling... More

Only do this if you are 100% confident about your fitness, strength and stamina. DO NOT attempt it if you are unfit, have bad knees or vertigo. I am in my 30s, very fit and active, and had climbed Kilimanjaro with relative ease just the week before. I thought, if I can do Kili with no trouble, I will have... More

This is an often over looked attraction, it is within close distance to Lake Natron, where the pink flamingos gather. Although not the tallest of volcanoes it stands proud adjacent to an area of the Great Rift valley. I intend to go back and climb which I have been told takes around 6 hours, this is Tanzania only currently active... More
