Fantastic experience. From a really emphatic welcome from the staff to the quality of our room, you couldn’t fault it. The food was amazing with so many delicious choices.
We met the elephants and walked with them, stroked them and had photos with them and they were a very gentle bunch! The Mahouts were equally as friendly and facilitated whatever you requested that the elephants do. Amazing experience. Loved everything about this place and the staff.

The Golden Triangle is a very unique place to visit. It has good hotels and restaurants. It has an outstanding pizza house called Mekong Pizza. Operated and managed very well by Khu So. They also serve great salads and Philly Steak Sandwiches. View of the Mekong river is super at the Golden Triangle.

It's rather special to visit the confluence of three countries - and on the mighty Mekong as well. The town is rather low key, but none the worse for that. There are the usual souvenir shops and a variety of places to eat, all very close to the impressive Golden Buddha, elephant figures and land based ship. There's also, not surprisingly, an opium museum, but we weren't tempted inside. A very pleasant trip in the country and well worth a visit.

We hired a scooter and travelled up from Chiang Rai to Golden Triangle. Lots of tourists there but not too busy. Great photo opportunities, not a lot to do but worth going too. Got to see the 3 countries, took lots of photos. Some market stalls and food stalls there & river trips. Spent about 30mins there.

Any visit to northern Thailand is enhanced by taking time to visit the Golden Triangle: where three nations represent the three sides of a triangle, ie, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos.
For me, the highlight was the giant golden Buddha statue, located close to the Ruak River on which boat rides are available.
Plenty of souvenir shops for those who wish to purchase a memorable item of their visit, or/and to give away as presents.

A long hot day. A whirlwind tour of Tachilek , also not worth the effort. Had lunch at one of restaurants by the river, had raw liver in it, for which I think I got the worse gastro I've ever had. Had a nightmare 60 km trip back to Chiang Rai Hospital, and an overnight stay. Trip to Laos Island, just a complete waste of time, unless you want to buy 1000 handbags. Also told of a captive black bear to view, which we promptly refused! Tiger penis and snake blood wine also on offer. Guide had some but we did not. Wont be going back!

WE last visited the Golden Triangle some 15 years ago and had a lovely tour, including visiting Don Sao, a Lao island which you can visit without a visa in the centre of the Mekong river.
15 years ago it was a lovely little local market with families at each stall.
Now it has been taken over by the Chinese selling fake goods in a concrete and tin shed. Utterly awful with poor quality and no atmosphere.
It was our fault the tour company took us there, as we asked for it to be included in the itinerary, but it was truly awful.
Avoid if at all possilbe, as there are so many other lovely things to do and see in Thailand
