The Fish Cave itself is actually pretty underwhelming as an attraction, though I believe that it holds some religious significance to the Thai people that I am not familiar with. Its a little hole in the ground about a meter wide, with an altar next to it. The entrance fee is 100THB (3-4 USD) per person. I think you can see a waterfall as part of the entrance ticket if I recall correctly, but we didn't bother with that as we had seen too many at that point (if you see one waterfall, you have seen them all amirite).
That being said, the park leading to the Fish Cave is really lovely with many waterways teeming with fish. I would recommend spending the 50THB to buy three little pails of vegetables to feed the fish. Its quite literally a cheap thrill, but it was very enjoyable to see hundreds of large carp fighting and splashing wherever you throw the food. There are multiple spots to feed the fish (including the 1m hole in the ground at the end). the walk is less than a kilometer.
Embarrassingly, we enjoyed feeding the fish so much that we bought 9 pails of veggies haha. There are at least two stalls selling pails of food, one at the entrance and one further in, near the cave, so you don't have to ration the food.
Overall, treat it as a very scenic walk in a park with thousands of fish, and don't get your expectations too high for the cave itself.

We visited in the afternoon in late Jan. Entrance fee is 200baht for foreigners and 20baht for locals. You can buy buckets of fish food near the ticket booth for 50baht for 3 buckets. It’s a nice park, well maintained, quiet and peaceful. Lots of fish in the cave but you can’t actually go into the cave, the path around the park is well maintained though. Would recommend if you have some time to kill

Lovely scenery and nice parklike setting brooding under a massive limestone karst, but the Fish Cave itself is slightly underwhemling. Still, if you are passing you can stop off to use the restaurants, loos etc or pay the admission and take a look. There are short trails through the woods too

First of all there’s a huge mix-up on these pages between:
Tham Pla (The Fish Cave), which is about 20 minutes drive north of MHS on the road to Pai,
and,
Tham Lot cave near Soppong, Pang Mapha district, Mae Hong Son Province which is about 40 minutes south of Pai on the road to MHS.
There’s even photos of Tham Lot cave on the Tham Pla pages, no wonder people review Tham Pla and express disappointment.
Tham Pla (Tham = Cave, Pla = Fish; The Fish Cave) is a beautiful little park close to the main highway, close to MHS, ideal for a quick visit, easy for everybody to walk to. The cave itself is tiny (more of a small hole in the cliff where the fish congregate). But the scenery is stunning and worth an hour of your time.

This is for people that enjoy fish. Mostly carp which can be fed with bread or vegetables which may be purchased on the premises. But it is a walk to enjoy the scenery and enjoy feeding these fish. Tourists pay more than the locals ( this happens in most tourist places where entrance fees for tourists are higher )
I did find this a bit boring as there was no other activity available

My wife, litte son and I visited the Thampla Fish Cave for half an hour. Except watching the fishes and feeding them there is not much left to do (except buying souvenirs). The Thampla Fish Cave also contains a small hiking trail (about 1 km), but the trail is also rather unspectecular. Considering the entrance fee of 100 THB pax, the value for money is definitely biased.
All in all the Thampla Fish Cave was ok but nothing more. Next time we will probably invest our money in another activity.

I visited the monkey temple and fish cave last week. The beautiful natural setting of the cliff face, and stream is completely spoiled by the numerous caged animals kept on the site. The animals are kept in appalling conditions with very little regard given their basic needs of food and water and shelter, and absolutely no attempt to provide enrichment to their lives in captivity. Crocodiles were kept in a small crowded concrete enclosure with only a small dirty pool. Rabbits and racoons were in small wire enclosures with no bedding, little food, and water bowls turned over and empty in 30 degree heat. I saw a racoons and rabbits in the enclosures that were slumped over sick and dying. There were hot plastic tubs left in the sun filled with turtles, eels for tourists to peer at. The park itself was poorly kept. It was dirty and littered with rubbish. To experience this hideous cruelty was very upsetting and would not recommend that anyone visit this place.

Surroundings are pretty, but fish cave is not much. All it proves is that if you feed fish regularly, they will breed and congregate at feeding points. So?

There are a few mixed reviews on this page reviewing 2 different places but I will talk about Fish Cave or Tham Plaa. Thais and foreigners with Thai driving licenses will be admitted for 20 Baht but if not in those categories you will be asked for 5 times that amount which is 100 Baht! Best described as after crossing a small bridge; a nice walk on a path beside a river for 500 meters to a small pool with fish in it, also a small area to worship Buddha. There is a place to buy coffee and fish food. I would not waste my time going again or recommend anyone to spend money here.

As a foreigner adults pay 100 Bath each. For what? A walk in the park! The pond has some fish in it, so! The so called cave is a slight hollow place in the mountain. A couple of meters deep. There is a hole in the ground one by one meter full of over fed fish. Disgusting!

I believe the only way to fish cave is by taxi minibus or tuk tuk about 10/15 mins out of town.
