A great monastery with a lot to see (spend an hour there). Several Shan style stupas with clear descriptions in English. One odd reminder of the Vietnam war: a small memorial from a couple of Rotarians but a mention of Air America, the infamous CIA airline active at the time! And who are Mike and Ray - Air America pilots?

You should see this if staying in Pai. The 300 plus steps take you to an amazing white Buddha. It was so peaceful at the top with some pretty amazing views below.

One must reach there before the sunset. However, I realized it little late, so I had to climb it faster. Not an easy task.
But upon reaching the top, the view was simply amazing.
I have no words to describe it.

This trip is mostly for nature lovers, as this road leads you through virgin forests and untouched territories. The road is very similar to the Mae Hong Son Ring Road, Mountain up and Mountain down, with hundreds of hairpins and steep inclines. I have done this trip reverse 3 years ago when the road was all dirt and some of the incline were almost impossible to get up. Now the road is all seald and tared, more time to concentrate on the beauty of nature.

The road is not far from the predominate lake area and is a steep climb to the top of the mountain. The Wat is very nice but the mountain location offers the best areal views of the Mae Hong Son city area.

Nice Wat on top of the mountain overlooking the town. Great views and photo opportunities. You can walk up from the town , very steep. I chose to drive.

Actually the correct name of the temple is " Wat Phra Tat Doi Kong Moo". One of tge most revere temple for Mae Hong Son resident. The temple was built in mixed Shan Thai style in 1860, the first pagoda by Shan Merchantwho was also high ranking officials, and the second smaller one by the governorof Mae Hongson province some 14 years later. The name of the temple,"Kong Moo", means "Pagoda". Its 1,300 metres elevation makep bird eye view point where you cansee the whole Mae Hongson Town Plus The Airport and runway. the scenery is beautiful especially at Sunrise and sunset. and with only 3 kilometres from the center of the town with 1.5 km road widing up to the top, u can walk up to the top on the road, or by the 300 steps stair at the foot of the mountain. There is a shop in the area where u can get a cup of coffee and refreshment and sitting on the patio to enjoy the view. The temple would be quiet crowded during the New Year festival as well as Song Kran festival and important Buddhist religious ceremony day. So if you like to experience the culture or if you wish to avoid the crowd see the calendar for each event.
