Visit Mae Hong Son Stop by to feed the fish. At the swamp in the middle of the city, see beautiful temples, taste local food, take a fun walk at Nong Chong Kham Walking Street, Mae Hong Son. During the winter, the weather is cool and comfortable.

Lake is under maintenance. No water at all. It should be finished in Q2 2022.
The market and street food is moved to city hall.
There are some permanent shop, restaurant remain.
However, the temple beside the lake still worth visit.

Mae Hong Son Lake is the most obvious place to visit. For photographers there are great opportunities for pictures of the temple. When we were there we met many local folk who had come to feed the fish.

This modest sized lake in the centre of picturesque Mae Hong Son is bordered on one side by a large and ornate temple complex, and there are several restaurants and coffee shops where you can sit and enjoy the calm and serenity of the lake while having lunch or a cup of coffee.
It also a great place for a pre-breakfast stroll, being just a 100 meters from our hotel. There is also an exercise area if you are into physical jerks.
Stand still on one of the pavilions stretching out into the lake and you might catch a sight of one of the monster out fish that inhabit the lake (I think they are very old carp, but am not sure).

This lake is a lovley place with two pagodas either end to sit and relax you can also feed the fish here by buying popcorn or bread from one of the disabled sellers.
has a nice grass verge to one side where you can lay down and read a book.
local restaurants at one end if you get thirsty and need a drink.
all in all its a very beautiful experience and at night when the temple lights are turned on it becomes quite magical.

Lovely temples, great atmosphere here overlooking the lake. The scenery with the temples and the mountains is lovely. I highly recommend the night market with nice food and the Fern Restaurant.

The place to hang out and chill. All streets lead down to the water. Everyone in town heads here in the cool of the evening to walk, talk, sit and chow down. Nice handicrafts and breathtaking view of the lit up Wat.

Beautiful view of the lake in the evening. But I missed its night view in which the lights of night market are reflected in the water. So I was disappointing at it, as the night markets are setup only in busy season.

Hi there, as the other people have indicated it's about 4 hours or so by bus - very lovely as long as you are not barfing all the way as it is a very very hairpin bendy ride. Mae Hong Son is one of my most favourite places in the world. I did volunteer teaching in the Wat and Primary school and so loved my days there bike riding and eating in the many lovely restaurants. Go! Short answer is 4 hours. LOL
