The feature that makes this theatre unique is the Diazoma. This passageway between the seats of the Cavea lies directly on a hill in the lower part, but is elevated on vaults in the upper part. The skenae frons is typical of the Antonine period, being decorated with friezes relating to Dionysius, and also to the Gigantomakhia. Many fragments are... More

The site has a small admittance charge but it is well worth a visit and makes a pleasant alternative to shopping

I walked 4 mile along the beach front from Evrenseki to visit here. I was amazed at the sheer size of the building and was looking forward to going in. I was disappointed to find it all fences off as I had read somewhere it was free to get in. Sure enough I soon found a way in but only... More

After visiting many Turkish historical sites this one is vastly overpriced at 20 Turkish lyra. You can take some pictures of it from the stage side from the street.

Many of these to be found in Turkey. This is allegedly the best restored. It's still used for performances (take a soft cushion) which must be incredible. We have been here a few times. The whole area has ruins dotted around it and on the road from the car park into town there are even ruins of houses you can just wonder into. The amphitheater does charge a small entrance fee but it's well worth it. Climb the steps and take a seat. Awesome.
