The bazaar is a unique experience , people will help you and are friendly but try getting your business .
Do not feel threatened in any way they are trying to make a living and be nice at the same time .
I've had 2 people show me around and take me shopping for what I want .
Remember to play the game , if they say 1000 lira you laugh and say 500 , it's a game played by both party's and fun .
I never felt threatened into buying anything , even if you don't buy they offer you a drink of water , tea , coffee etc ........I loved it , very good experience

This port was a fill in on our recent cruise, and we had done much of the tours in the area before, so we just planned to get off the ship and see a bit of the city on our own. We took a taxi from cruise port, which was easy with an English speaking helper to tell our drivers where we wanted to go (6 people = 2 taxis). Not so easy on the way back from the Clock Tower Plaza (which is close to the Market), as drivers do not understand English at all! One of our travel mates showed driver a map on phone of the cruise port, and he finally figured it out and called a friend for a 2nd taxi.
Our goal on this visit was just to see a little bit of Izmir (it was very large) and shop for some designer bags for family. We wandered to market for an hour or so, with lots of people trying to "get us to go with them" to see what they were selling. We were surprised at how many Bridal and after 5 type shops there were here! We found some beautiful bags and were happy with our short visit in Izmir; not sure there was much else to do except tour the city and see museums. The market was much more interesting to us!

This is a classic Turkish oriental bazaar you find in every Turkish city. Depending on the city's size, such is the bazaar. Being the second biggest Turkish city, Izmir hosts the same size bazaar.
Izmir's bazaar is not that big and colorful as Istanbul's Kapali, but it's significantly big and you'll easily get lost there. It consists of covered and opened parts with hundreds of stalls and shops selling everything from fake fashion items and watches, to furs and leather jackets and jeans. Many small local eateries and places with byrek and squeezed juices.
Definitely worth an hour or two, just watch your belongings and be ready to bargain if shopping.

Visited the markets several times throughout our stay. Some of the workers are quite aggressive to try and get you into their shops. Some of the market workers are lovely and not pushy trying to sell you stuff, we learned it's best to ignore them and just walk past as they will keep following you if you talk to them. Some good deals in some stalls, some are very overpriced you need to shop around. Very crowded too so need to be aware of pickpockets

Welcome to the fake world, everything is sold here even pets.
Located next to Izmir open agora and the castle.
If you staying at DT hilton Alsancak it's 15 minutes walk.
Cheap quality brands on sale for cheaper prices but you got to bargain and walk away if prices are not suitable.
To be in Turkey you must live the Bazar (market) experience.

The market is in one of the oldest areas of Izmir. It is really big and offers so much. You can buy almost anything and the atmosphere is vibrant. You maybe hassled occasionally but maintain politeness and be persistent in saying no firmly you will get by. There are also numerous cafés for refreshments.

This is a review of the Kemeralti district surrounding the bazaar.
We didn’t prioritise the Kemeralti bazaar because of the pressures we had read about from stall holders. However the surrounding streets were plenty entertaining enough , tucked in to a narrow maze of streets leading out from Konak Square. Rich array of goods in all colours and forms. Prices in Turkey seem really cheap and many places accept Euros rather than Turkish lira.

If you like shopping Kemeralti is perfect. The old basar is a karavanserai and have parts that is more than 300 years old. I recommend you to take a look of the buildings, not only the stuff inside the shops. The area is hustling and bustling all day. In summerseason an early visit could be more comfortable than afternoon visit. Dont forget to sit down with a glas of tea .

Loads of stalls for clothing, shoes, Jewellery, fish, and anything else you may need.
Be careful as there are teams of children out to pick pocket you.
Ladies keep your handbags tight, gents leave your watch on the safe and hands on your wallet and phone.
Still a busy market and everyone wearing masks which was reassuring.
Worth a visit for sure.

You can find anything here if you look , although it Is easy to get lost. The shopkeepers are very helpful and just ask which way the sea is and you can navigate yourself out of the maze. A smaller version of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Warning it gets very crowded and extremely hot in Summer. A must see.

Is this market far from ekol hospital?
Written July 15, 2020
It is quite a way away, depends how you are travelling but by car with Izmir traffic probably 30 to 40 minutes but bad traffic 60 easily.

Sorry, can’t help. Gave up driving years ago and now walk everywhere. 😊😊😊

I have learned that new highway from lstabul to izmir has been opned which will reduce the travelling time to 3 hours So is it possible to go from Istanbul to Izmir by bus in the morning and come back in the night what will be bus fare for round trip
Written August 4, 2019
Yes Its possible but you wont be able to enjoy Izmir on a day trip. It would be better to stay at Izmir for at least 3 nights so you can explore a lot of places like Ephesus, Sirince, Kusadsasi etc.

Hi, We are a young couple with two small children. We are planning to visit Izmir for 1 week. We would love to stay close to a beach in a reasonably priced hotel and also be close to the city attractions and bazars. We love seafood so a recommendation on where to get some would also be appreciated.
Written April 29, 2019
HI! I have seen two very useful hints given by fellow TripAdvisor travellers which you would have great interest in following. To the best of my knowledge and memory, Izmir have no close by beaches, even less walking distance to main attraction. Izmir is a tremendous cosmopolitan city by the sea, with nice attractions and restaurants, some very fashionable by the Kordon. But no city beaches.

I am planning four days stay at Izmir Konak . First I want to know is their goodand reasonable hotel at Konak ans secondly , I want to visit Fethiye , Pammukkale and Antalya . Guide me if four days are enough and how I should plan four days .
Written August 30, 2018
Hello Leo,
I have stayed at Hilton, but hated it. There is Swiss Hotel, but it is a little pricey. I do not know other hotels in Konak. Antalya is very far, so is Fethiye. Four day is not enough. In fact, four day wasn't enough for us just for the city of Izmir. Fethiye is about 8 hours round trip from Izmir. Antalya is about 12 hours round trip from Izmir, and Pamukkale is about 6 hours round trip. I have not been to Pamukkale.
I would suggest Fethiye because,I have been to Antalya and it is so hot and dry.
I like Fethiye better. Its quieter than Antalya and nature is beautiful. I have not been to Pamukkale as there isn't much to see besides the natural formations of rocks. I hope this helps.
For reference; We have rented a taxi to Ephesus in Selcuk which is about an hour away. This trip has cost us 600 Turkish Lira round trip.
