Little church in the middle of town - bring a flashlight

The church building is still intact, and the door was wide open when we arrived. It was completely dark inside, but we took photos anyway using our flash cameras. When we got... read more

Right in the middle of the beautiful pedestrian town centre of Trabzon. I love this city-it is walkable has great shops and this gorgeous church right in the middle. How anyone can rate this one star is a mystery to me, unless they hate Christians as this is a beautiful work of architecture..

This time last year I had just finished an amazing tour of Trabzon, Istanbul and surroundings. I had no idea what of what to expect when our wonderful travel agent Yalcin from Kaletour in Istanbul had organised our holiday. I cant remember all the names of places we visited, but i can assure you everything is worth seeking. Museums, churches,... More

The church building is still intact, and the door was wide open when we arrived. It was completely dark inside, but we took photos anyway using our flash cameras. When we got home, we realized that we had some pretty good pictures of the colorful frescoes! It is worth a visit since it's right in the middle of town and... More

Saint Anne's is a small church in town on the main street (not to be confused with the marvelous Hagia Sofia west and on the hill). It is worth a stop for a few minutes if walking by, though the quality of the two remaining Byzantine paintings is very poor now.

This diminutive 9th century church (now permanently locked) is a sad remain of Trabzon's Byzantine past. On the outside, the only decoration consists of a relief over the side door, while the guidebooks say that the frescoes that once adorned the interior walls have been completely obliterated since 1923.
