Very nice place, but nowhere on the way information that is closed due to reconstruction until 08/2018!!! Just on the gate 300 meters from the Monastery!

Set in the lovely Cosandere valley, this is not easily accessible for those with mobility issues. The path is very undulating, and has many large tree roots crossing it. The monastery seems to hover in space. Many of the walls are richly adorned with frescoes....More

We have go there in march but unfortunately the weather was cold and snow so there was close ! The place is good and beautiful I think it's great place and should visit there In next trip I will go again

The important thins is that you cant see anything in fog , you should check before going there and go on sunny days

Love the atmosphere, Monastery it self was under construction so we couldn't get close to it viewed it from a distance but every obstacle up to get there is great fun the scenery is amazing.

it supposed to be opened by September as what they announced here sumela . com you can also contact them on that link to ask them directly

unfortunately, sumela monastery is closed until next summer. but you can visit 'Altındere Vadisi Milli Parkı' which is on the way to sumela. it's a really beautiful, natural and quiet place it totally worth visiting.
