Visited there twice, once in Oct 2013, my first time in Poltava, then again on Fri 26 Aug 2016. It felt cool in October, but stuffy and muggy in August( It was like that throughout Ukraine that when summer comes, there's technically no air conditioning in the museums but there are elec. fans like those in China. This museum is... More

We went there to help me learn more about Poltava history and very happy with my visit. Went with a translator, found there was a lot of great things to learn about and see. The building design and architecture was very facinating to me, such a unique building to me.

There are some interesting exhibits from mammoth fossil skeleton through to Chernobyl. There are some English speaking guides available at times. I was guided by my fiance and her translator but as I am learning the language I tried to do some on my own.

I saw beautiful museem buildings with poor exhibitions and mediocre buldings with gorgeous exhibitions. However this museum is two in one in a good sense! Not the best museum in my life, but definitely in my TOP-5 of historical museums. Exterior and interior of this building are majestic! Also I was charmed by third floors exhibition - there were ethnical... More

It took us about an hour or more to make our way through this museum, which is very old and quite large. It has a wide variety of artifacts on display (not only local ones), some dating back many centuries. I will say that the taxidermy could have been done better, but overall it was very interesting and informative.

Do not be put off by the mis-translation of the museum's name. It is not the local 'lore' museum ! It is the Poltava local museum - i.e. everything about Poltava and the region. Very comprehensive.

I went in here not sure what to expect and I was surprised when I began to view the exhibitions about how many and well everything is displayed. I will say no more I don't want to spoil your surprise.

I really enjoyed the museum even though everything is presented in Ukrainian or Russian. The quality and quantity of displays was way better than I expected. The history and development of the Poltava region is represented nicely with displays of history, battles, city, home life, and culture. Most recently, they have added memorials of the Ukrainian soldiers (from Poltava) that... More

Good for 3 hours , as usual in Ukraine very small entry fee. so good value. Exhibits described in Ukrainian, so either you need to read Ukrainian or just enjoy wandering around museum. Visit and enjoy..

A very interesting museum housed in a beautiful Baroque building the exhibits are spread over two floors in separate sections there is even a wooly mammoth to see, sadly no English language explanations but I guess it's a little of the beaten track for that Well worth a visit and with a guide even better
