Uruguay is knew in the world of wine for the Tannat variety, a very tannic and full body red wine, you can taste in our cava. Come for wine and a great moment of conviviality. I really wanted to give this winery a better review and I don't regret going there. However, you can tell this winery is in transition and it needs some updating. However, if you want to see a winery in a bit of a time warp with a lot of the original equipment on display (not being used), it is interesting... More

We didn´t have time to tour the winery, just went to the cafe, but that was excellent. The food was like homemade ,very good. Luis Castro served us is very nicely and we talked like we were friends. Thank you Luis for the good time we had in your cafe. We also bought 2 bottles of wine, one Tannat and... More

We visited the winery without a reservation (you should call ahead though if you want to visit!), and Maria happened to be ending a tour with another group. She was so kind to still show us the winery anyways and explain the history of her grandparents that founded it. The winery is truly living history! From the vintage cars to... More

Don't miss the opportunity to visit Irurtia on your visit to Carmelo. It's a family run Bodega. Marie Noel, one of the family members, gave us a wonderful tour including wine tasting in the amazing wine cellar. It's a great experience and the wine is wonderful!

My friend and I visited Carmelo for wine tasting and we weren't disappointed. We were given a private wine tour from the Irurtia family followed by a tasting. The winery is very close to the city of Carmelo and you can bike there if you are able to rent a bike. We actually had issues with our bikes and the... More

I was told Irurtia was "huge," and it is by Uruguayan standards, but it's pretty tiny by American standards. I was expecting a cheezy video, perhaps followed by a huge tour group and bland wine. Quite the contrary. There were three of us in the tour group (myself included), it was very information (no informational video), and the tasting in... More

I have became a big fan of Km.0, just can't wait to have another bottle in my hands! A very picturesque place with a quiet atmosphere and good vibrations.

Bodega Familia Irurtia mixes the charm of a family owned and operated winery with the quality of a large establishment. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the winery - complete with a tour provided by a member of the family and tastings tailored to our individual wine preferences in a gorgeous wine tasting room. One directional note: we rode right... More

Our hotel made us a tour reservation for this winery, and my friend and I set out on bikes to find it. Unfortunately we missed the sign and ended up driving right by it. Twice. We gave up and drove back to our hotel, and as we were pulling up, the manager just happened to be on the phone with... More

Excellent tour in the largest winery of Carmelo. We were guided by one of the owners of the winery, Maria Irurtia. We visited the vines and then went inside to see how the wines are made. The tour was very nice, Mary is a simple, friendly and funny person. The appetizer (picada) she served was no big deal, just toasted... More
