Worth looking round being the oldest Church in South America. It was free entry.....didn't take long! It's opposite El Drugstore.

Walked into this church to find big size sculptures of different types of birds. Interesting. Other than that it had a pretty nativity set up at the entrance for the holidays

Conservative and antique church in the center of Colonia. The oldest in Uruguay. Inside the church is very conservative and simple, but nice.

We checked out this little Historic Church while out on our walk abouts. Nice place to visit and check out the history, located in the old city next to some very good restaurants and shopping. It's worth the visit and a peek inside, of a such an old building.

to enter the church you pass an old door and than you are amazed by the soberness of this litlle white church. It makes the barrio antiquo complete.

We visited this historical site and were blessed that we arrived just before Mass on Sunday. The local children were receiving confirmation and several children and adults were being baptized during the service. The Mass was in Spanish and we spoke English, but the Mass is universal and although we only understood a little of the homily the smile and... More

It is considered the oldest church in Uruguay. It has been built in 1680. It has been renovated several times but its decor is pretty and of good quality. It is located in the old city next to the Plaza de Armas.

The oldest church in Uruguay first started by the original Portuguese settlers in 1680. Since then it was completely rebuilt twice, the latest in 1810 and now sits alongside the foundations of a house dating back to the Portuguese era in the lovely Plaza de Armas. The tower can be viewed from almost anywhere in Colonia. Inside the simplistic beauty... More

What I really like about this church is that it's simple in design. Historic, it's a landmark for Colonia del Sacramento. I believe this to be the oldest church in Uruguay and was built when this area was part of the Portuguese colony. It's at the end of a cobbled street which adds more to the charm.
