Not much to see but a long grave under a roof. 25'000 Som was too much for that imo. I understand that it might be a special place for religious visitors, but for sightseeing purposes this is nothing interesting at all. Or maybe I am just spoiled from all the crazy beautiful buildings in Samarkand...

The archaeological site is accessed after a rather short staircase. The enormous sarcophagus containing the remains of the prophet is located inside a mausoleum whose only access is represented by a small door from which one can only lean out a few centimeters. The historical and religious value is fine, but the visitor is left with very little.

Nice park area around the site. Tomb is small so probably only need a few minutes to look around. I’d suggest only visiting if you’re passing, or if you have a longer stay in Samarkand.

The Mausoleum of Khoja Doniorn is located on the outskirts of the ancient settlement of Afrasiab, in a nice park on the banks of the Siab River. According to legend, the mausoleum contains the relics of the biblical prophet Daniel (Doniyor), revered by Jews, Christians and Muslims. On the territory of the complex, one cannot help but pay attention to the holy spring, over which the sardoba is built, as well as to the pistachio tree, which is five hundred years old. Well, that's what they say... Entrance ticket - 25,000 UZS.

The building is 12 meters long and 6 meter wide and houses the 10 meter long Tomb with the relic of the Old Testament Prophet of St Daniels the guardian of wealth and prosperity. The sarcophagus is made of white marble. The head of the tomb have Arabic and Persian inscription covered in green prayer rag embroidered with gold threads. It’s believe that St Daniels corpse grows inside the tomb. A place of pilgrimage and devotion women wishing to have children. For the legend alone this place is interesting and can arouse curiosity!

Possibly it was a communications failure on the part of our guide, but the idea of a tomb being extended to accommodate an ever-lengthening bone did not seem credible. The failure to admit of any doubt as to the truth of the legend did not encourage confidence in its veracity. But a pleasant setting.

I missed the spiritual aspect of the monuments here in Samarkand, with all the shops it might seem that this is what it's all about. The prophet Daniel's tomb is a nice way to make up for that, here spirituality is all what drives people to come, since there is not much to see. I liked just sitting in front of the tomb and hearing the prayer chants.

This is one of several burial places claimed for Daniel. This is the same Daniel as found in the Bible. In Islam he is revered as a saint. He has a very elongated coffin due to his holiness.

Daniel's tomb was a pleasant walk from the Registan. I believe it is about 2/3 kilometres. It is in a perfect setting. Interestingly to see he is so revered by the Muslim people, I was not aware of this.

Learning the story of St Daniel as a child, it was highlight to visit his tomb. Worth a visit, it is being spruced up for tourism with newly planted trees and bushes.
